Graves stood up and picked up the case, walking towards them.
"Don't hurt those creatures," Newt shook his head. "please you don't understand nothing in there is dangerous. Nothing--"
"--We'll be the judges of that. Take them to the cells."
"Don't hurt those creatures! N-nothing in there is dangerous! Please don't hurt my creatures--they aren't dangerous!" Newt's pleading's rang through Celeste's head. "Please, they're not dangerous! They're not dangerous!"

Sitting in the cell included a lot of awkward silence, and Celeste awkwardly comforting Newt by rubbing circles on his back while he sat looking melancholy in the corner of the cell.
"I'm so sorry about your creatures, Mr. Scamander," Tina apologized in vain. "I truly am."
Silence.
"Can someone please tell me what this obscurial obscurus thing is? Please?" Jacob asked.
"There hasn't been one for centuries."
Celeste, instead of correcting Tina, remained quiet, not wanting to recall what had ruined her life years ago.
"I met one in Sedan three months ago," Newt said, surprising both Tina and Celeste, and she removed her hand from his back impulsively. Newt already missed the warm feeling on his back.
"there used to be more of them but they still exist. It was before wizards went underground, when we were still being hunted by muggles. Young wizards and witches sometimes tried to suppress their magic, to avoid persecution." Newt fought to keep his voice steady. "So instead of learning to harness or t-to control their powers, they developed.. What was called an obscurus."
Jacob still looked confused.
"It's an unstable and uncontrollable dark force that busts out and attacks," Tina explained. "and then vanishes. obscurial can't survive long can they?"
Newt, furiously rubbing at his eyes, answered:
"There's no documented case of obscurial surviving past the age of ten, the one I met in Africa was eight when she--" Newt bit his lip. "she was eight when she died."
"What, what are you telling me here? Th-that Senator Shaw was killed by a--a kid?" Jacob questioned.
"Most likely, yes." Celeste answered.
A group of wizards and witches came down to escort Celeste, Newt, and Tina, and as they headed away from Jacob, Newt and Celeste turned their heads to look at him one last time.
"It was, good to make your acquaintance Jacob. I hope you get your bakery."
"Yeah, see you.." Celeste added, forcing herself to look indifferent as Jacob, looking worried at the two of them, waved.

"You're an interesting man, Mr. Scamander," Mr. Graves commented.
The group were in a interrogation room, Celeste and Tina standing side by side behind Newt, who was sitting in front of Graves at a table.
"Mr. Graves," Tina began, stepping forward.
Graves shook his head, sitting up and sighing as if he was disappointed in the group.
"thrown out of Hogwarts for, endangering human life, it says here that Celeste assisted you and got put on probation--"
"That was an accident, Celeste wasn't part of it."
"Merlin's ass, it wasn't." Celeste scoffed, tired of having Newt take the blame for everything that Celeste had done.
"With a beast? Yet one of your teachers argued strongly against your expulsion now," Graves' head looked up from the file report of Newt. "what makes Albus Dumbledore... So, fond of you?"
Newt, after a moment's hesitation, shook his head, whispering:
"I really couldn't say."
"So setting a pack of dangerous creatures loose here was," Graves shook his head, looking at Celeste and Tina before looking back and Newt. "was just another, accident, is that right?"
"Why would I do it deliberately?"
"To expose wizard kind, to provoke war between the magical and non-magical worlds?" Graves looked pained.
"Mass, slaughter for the greater good, you mean." Newt elaborated sarcastically.
Graves stared for a moment, eyebrows furrowed.
"Yes," He glanced at the pair of girls standing behind Newt for the second time, which made Celeste really want to punch the guy. "quite."
"I'm not one of Grindelwald's fanatics, Mr. Graves."
Graves gave a tiny smile, then sat up straight.
"I wonder what you could tell me about this, Mr. Scamander." And he summoned something with his hands, the dark matter floating towards the two.
Celeste stared, eyes widening.
Newt, instead of trying to explain to Graves, panicked and turned to Celeste.
"It's an obscurus, but its not what you think! I managed to separate it from the Sudanese girl as I tried to save her, I wanted to bring it home to study it, but it cannot survive outside there, it cannot hurt anyone Cel!"
Celeste stood, unmoving.
"So its useless without the host."
"Useless... Useless?! That is, a parasitical magical force, that killed a child, what on Earth would you use it for?"
Graves thought for a second.
"You fool nobody, Mr. Scamander. You brought this obscurus into the city of New York in the hopes of causing mass disruption, breaking the Statute of Secrecy and revealing the magical world--"
"--You know it can't hurt anyone, you know--"
"--Therefore guilty with treason as betrayal of your fellow wizards and a sentence to death."
"What! No, you can't--He hasn't--" Celeste yelled.
"--Ms. Goldstein and Ms. Edgecombe who has aided and abetted you,"
"No! They've done nothing of the case!" Newt tried to defend.
"use the same sentence."
