~Brandin's POV~

Freshmen year, the beginning of four years in what my friend Miley likes to call prison. It's not all bad though. I'm a straight A student, most of my classes bore me to death except for choir and my friends, well, they're just crazy.

Yes. I'm one of those artsy people who will act like a complete idiot without warning. Go ahead and judge me, I don't care what you think because I didn't ask for your opinion.

Walking down the crowded hallways of Skyline High, my eyes landed on a tall boy with dark chocolate hair, dazzling brown eyes and skin kissed by the caribbean sun. Malen Johnson, SHS's star choirboy and, of course, my crush. He was surrounded by three of his good friends, Miley being one of them. I watched in awe as he walked passed me with such grace. He was much taller than me, considering I'm only 5'1.

Suddenly, I was hit by something hard causing me to fall to the floor and landing with an oof. Shaking my head to get the dizzyness out of me, I looked up to see a boy with light, honey hair, dark green eyes and pale skin. Sean, Malen's ex-boyfriend.

"Staring at my boyfriend shortie?" Even though they are broken up, Sean still acts like they're together. All the info. Miley gave me was that Malen caught Sean cheating on him with a dumb blonde. Sean is a jerk. One who refuses to accept the fact that Malen dumped him and others are gladly willing to treat him like a king, like me.

"Hey! Are you listening to me?" The change of tone in Sean's voice caught my attention. Without time to react, his hand caught me by the collar of my shirt. Yanking me off the floor with much force caused me to squeak in surprise and fear. Now standing on my tippy-toes and literally face to face with Sean, I was shaking like a wet dog. 'Oh no...!'

"I better not catch you gawking at my boyfriend like a love sick puppy again. Or else." He practically growled those words as he stared me down. "Do you understand?" I nodded unable to form a single word. He snickered in satisfaction of my squirming since I was scared out of my wit's end.

When he dropped me, I stumbled a little, struggling to find my balance. I stood there in the now almost completely empty halls with my books and binders at my feet. 'Well that's just great. How am I supposed to protect Malen when I can't even stand up to his ex-boyfriend?'

With haste, I picked up my books and rushed to my first period class.
