“You know it’s only since coming into this world, this wolf world outside my fathers, that people are limiting my time with him. I have always looked after Tim, never have I ever had to leave him, or be restrained back because people say I can’t go to him.”
“Way of the world sweetheart, now, sit up slowly, not too fast and drink that drink on the bedside table. Fresh orange, full of sugar to make sure you don’t go giving your mate another heart attack, he was frantic when you blacked out on us.”
Sliding her legs from under the quilt she stood but ignored the drink. Random man openly laughed at her but still guided her from the room. There was no way she was drinking a drink from people she didn’t fully trust. She was led from the bedroom, the very luxurious bedroom, to a hall. It looked like a castle from old, but on a slightly smaller scale.
“How have people with such a bad reputation got so much money?”
“We don’t always wear cast off clothing that smells like rotten corpses and some of us have skills in building not just sneaking.”
“Glad to know about the clothing.”
They shared an amused look and Tendra felt a sort of bond forming, a friendly bond that she hadn’t had much experience in. He even took hold of her arm to lead her left instead of right which was where she was trying to go by mistake.
“What’s your name?”
“Tommy.”
They didn’t share any more conversation after that, they simply made their way towards what turned out to be the main hall and it was lit with torches held in brackets on the wall. Torches as in fire on top. “Very old world,” She commented.
“We like the subtle light, plus, we can’t get electricity in the forest.”
“We got it.”
“Then you have communications with people. Got wolves who are electricians?”
“Not sure.”
“Either you have or you know some people, we don’t.”
She had never really asked about the jobs of the wolves and now she was curious but other question were running through her mind.
“How can you smell them?” Tendra asked. “How can I?”
“Before you hit wolf maturity you were exposed to their scents. It’s why children can always recognise their parents and family.”
“Oh, that’s was just a theory Ray had.”
“It was a good theory, it was right. Not all of us here can smell them, but most of us can, because dealings with the Letale pack occurred when we were youngsters and only on changing for the first time did we realise we could do something to bring them down. I was one of the first to join this pack and it took a few years to grow as big as we are. Some have seen the atrocities they have done and joined us to help but haven’t been on the receiving end of their crimes. So the scent is disguised to them.”
