It was finally time. Albus turned around and took one last glance at his parents, and climbed aboard the departing Hogwarts Express. He had been excited to go to Hogwarts ever since James went, but now, he wasn't quite so sure anymore; he was far too nervous.
Albus walked down the aisle, looking around, and then jumped at a sharp tap on his shoulder. It was his cousin, Rose.
"C'mon, Al," she said, gesturing towards an empty compartment. She was already dressed in her Hogwarts robes. He followed her into the compartment.
"Are you nervous?" asked Rose, sitting down and getting comfortable in her seat.
"Yeah, a bit," sighed Albus. "I don't really know what to expect. James told me tons of things about Hogwarts, but I'm not sure if I should believe him or not." He looked around, checking if anyone was listening. "You don't suppose we have to battle a giant squid, right?"
Rose laughed. "I'm sure we won't have to do that. My parents... well mostly my mom, told me all about Hogwarts. When we first get there, this half-giant guy, (I think his name is Hagrid) will take you to the castle, and then we go into the Great Hall to get sorted into our houses. My parents were both in -"
"Gryffindor," Albus interrupted. "My parents were from that house, too." Albus looked down. "You don't suppose we would get put into Slytherin, do you? James told me that was the house where most dark wizards turned out in. Dad did tell me that the Sorting Hat will also take your opinion into account."
"Really?" Exclaimed Rose. "That's fantastic! Anyway, you don't need to worry, Hogwarts will be great!"
Albus smiled faintly. "D'you think -"
Just then the compartment door slid open. A boy with a pointed face, pale skin, and sleek-white-blonde hair walk in his suitcase. "All the other compartments are full." He said, staring at Albus and Rose.
Albus and Rose stared back. "Aren't you -"
"Malfoy," he said proudly. "Scorpius Malfoy. Son of Draco and Astoria Malfoy."
Rose cleared her throat. "My name is -"
"I know who you are," said Malfoy with a smirk. "You're the Weasley! And aren't you the son of the famous Harry Potter?"
Albus stared. "Er... yeah - "
"My father didn't tell me much about you, but I've done my own research." Scorpius continued smugly. "Both of your parents were in Slytherin!"
"Er... actually they were in -"
"My father was in Slytherin, too. My whole family was! I'll be in Slytherin for sure. I'd just die if I were in any of the other houses, especially that Gryffindor house." He turned around. "Oh, look! The food trolley's here!"
Albus and Rose looked at each other nervously as Scorpius Malfoy seemed to order everything off of the food trolley. Albus had to admit, the candy on there looked pretty delicious.
"We're almost at the school," said the lady pushing the food trolley. "Good luck on your first year!"
Malfoy rolled his eyes and smirked as the lady pushed the car away.
"What?" snapped Albus.
"Didn't you see the state of her robes? I didn't know everyone here wore clothes from the dump!" sneered Malfoy.
Rose shot up clearly agitated. "How dare you -"
"Look! We're here!" exclaimed Albus, changing the topic.
It was an amazing sight. An enormous, lit-up castle stood by the sea of clear shining blue water, it was the most beautiful thing Albus had ever seen.
Beside him, Rose gasped at the view, while Malfoy looked bored, rolling a jelly bean between his fingers.
They ran off the train, along with everyone else, to get a clearer view of the castle.
"First-years, this way!" boomed a voice.
Albus turned around and gasped. There stood the biggest man he ever saw. The man had a long, curly beard and a big, round belly.
"That's him!" squealed Rose. "I told you, I told you, I told you!"
"I never said you were wrong... " muttered Albus.
Rose marched up to the giant man. "You must be Hagrid! Nice to meet you! My mom and dad told me all about you."
The man smiled. "The name's Hagrid. Rubeus Hagrid. You must be the daughter of Ron and Hermione!" He leaned down. "They were some of my favorite students."
Rose giggled as Hagrid lead them all inside the enormous castle. It looked just as amazing on the inside as on the outside. The Great Hall was decorated with floating candles.
A woman with a stern face and tight bun walked toward them. "Welcome, first-years, to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I'm Professor McGonagall, the Headmistress."
"Now, I expect you all to listen to orders and follow expectations or you will be in serious trouble. You will now be sorted into your houses: Ravenclaw, Gryffindor -"
Scorpius Malfoy snorted.
"Hufflepuff, or Slytherin. All of you have to do is put on the Sorting Hat, and it will sort you into your houses. After the Sorting, you will be able to enjoy the delicious feast put together by our lovely Hogwarts staff."
"Mum told me they enslave House-Elves to cook here!" gasped Rose.
A short little wizard walked up to them. "My name is Professor Flitwick. I am the Deputy Headmaster, and Charms teacher. Now, first things first." He pulled out an old hat, and immediately, it started singing.
Here at Hogwarts, you will find witches and wizards of all shape and kind...
When the Sorting Hat finished it's song, the Hall burst into applause. Albus and Rose grinned at each other, while Malfoy, again, looked bored and uninterested. Professor Flitwick started calling out names of the first-years to be sorted.
"Malfoy, Scorpius," yelled the Professor. Malfoy walked up and sat on the stool as Professor Flitwick placed the hat on his head.
For a long time, it didn't do anything. Albus thought maybe it broke or something. But then, a few minutes later it shouted...
"GRYFFINDOR!"
Malfoy, along with everyone else in the Great Hall, froze.
