Chapter 1~ Unfair to Nerds

"Lily! Dinner!" I heard Jaime yell.

I sighed and put my book down. I walked out of my room and down stairs to the dining room. I sat there, in silence as the rest of my family chatted about everything.

"So Lily are you ready for school Monday?" My mother asked, finally including me in this evening's meal.

I nodded.

"Yep. As ready as I'll ever be anyway." I mumbled.

My mom sighed and my dad didn't respond at all. My blood started to boil.

"So Sonya...." I trailed off, looking at her.

She looked at me with a sneer.

"What?"

I smiled an evil smile.

"Rick was telling me you two were talking. Of course I didn't respond. I came into the house and put the boxes in the kitchen. Is this true?" I asked.

My parents gasped and her mouth gapped open.

"No...I...it's not true!"

My eyebrow shot up.

"Liar!" Jaime yelled.

"Shut up twerp!" She whispered loudly.

He smiled an evil smile and I couldn't help but love my brother at the moment. Whenever I was trying to get Sonya in trouble he would always help me.

"Is this true Sonya?" My father asked.

Sonya looked at her lap.

"Yes daddy." She whispered.

I was about to smile when he said.

"Just don't do it again you hear? Those boys are nothing but trouble like they're parents."

I looked at him and then my mother. That's it? They weren't going to ground her? My blood started to boil even more and when Sonya smiled her innocent smile and winked at me, I exploded.

"That's not fair! She should be grounded for not following your rules!" I yelled.

My parents looked at me.

"Lily it was a mistake. She's sorry and she said she wouldn't do it again." My mother explained like it was the easiest thing in the world.

I stared at her and then my father.

"That's not fair!" I yelled.

"Life's not fair Lily." My father said suddenly.

I looked at him in total shock. I couldn't believe him or my mother.

"You know what? I can see why the Stevenson's don't like you. Hell if I was your neighbors I wouldn't either!" I yelled, standing up from my chair.

"Lily!" My mother exclaimed.

I looked at her.

"What?"

"Go to your room young lady. Now." My father demanded.

I glared at him.

"Fine! I'd rather be up there then here anyways!" I yelled as I stomped up to my room.

I slammed my door and plopped on my bed. I heard my father yelling at Jaime telling him he'd be next if he didn't behave. I grabbed my iPod and turned it on, putting in my headphones. I turned the volume all the way up, ignoring the world with my music. Suddenly I just burst into tears.

It wasn't fair.

Why did Sonya not get in trouble for talking to Rick when she wasn't supposed to? I got grounded because I was yelling at Jaime to stop spraying me with the hose and thats not fair. I sniffed and looked at the clock. Holy crap I've been crying for an hour?! I took my headphones out and got up, going straight to my door, opening it a crack. I could hear my parents snoring and Sonya talking in her sleep. My parents hadn't even bothered to come say good night. I took a deep breath and walked to Jaime's room. When I opened the door I couldn't help the giggles that started to escape. Jaime was still awake, playing Modern Warfare 3 on his xbox 360. He turned around in his game chair and I saw he had on his headphones and everything.

"Hey sis. Wanna cone play?" He asked.

I smiled.

"You young man should be asleep." I said quietly as I walked into his room.

"Yeah and you should be in your room but your not." He stated.

I shook my head and smiled.

"Touché."

I sat next to him.

"So you nervous?" He asked suddenly.

"Nervous for what bub?" I asked.

He sighed.

"You know.....school...."

Ah....I looked at him.

"Yep. But honestly....I think we'll be fine." I stated.

He snorted.

"Maybe Sonya. All she has to do is offer her bed and she's got a million friends."

I burst out laughing at what Jaime just said.

Sad thing is, it was true.

Sonya was a major flirt and a slut. Jaime and I were the nerds of the family and neither of us were ever popular at any of the schools we've been to. I knew Jaime wanted to be but....I also know he likes being a nerd too.

"Well you'll make friends Jaime. Besides popularity isn't the best thing. You and I know that."

He nodded.

"It seems like we're the only two people in this family that know that." He mumbled.

I didn't respond to that but he was right. To our parents, popularity at their jobs is more important than getting paid and Sonya....it's pretty much her life. Jaime and I could honestly care less. I stood up and kissed the top of his head.

"Get some rest Jaime." I told him.

He nodded and I left his room. I walked back to my room and changed into my pjs. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out.
