Ah oc.. original characters what a great topic. Well I'm not going to dive into the Mary Sue of oc but how to make a good one.
Step 1- Pick a universe. This could be one you created yourself or one already premade like Naruto or Blue Exorcist. Choose something you enjoy.
Step 2- Choose a gender. Boy Girl Cat just choose something that will fit well into the universe.
Step 3- this is where the fun begins. Looks. For the appearance of the character look at other characters that already exist in the story. Hey you want your oc to have pink hair, go for it. Unless it's uncannon. You shouldn't give your oc pink hair if their story takes place in AoT it's just not realistic. Stories like AoT have realistic designs they also don't have hair dye either so unnatural colors of hair are a big no no. On the other hand if you want to give your oc neon purple and orange hair and their story takes place in yugioh, HELL YEAH DO IT. I mean just look at the Yuya's is that realistic hair colors hell nooo so go for it.
This also takes us to the topic of names. Naming your oc is hard like really hard like harder than my ****. But here are some suggestions. Know where the show is taking place. Is it in England like in black butler or in Asia like in Tokyo ghoul. Or maybe it takes place in Germany like in AoT. Where ever it takes place the name should be from that region of the world. If I was making a Magi oc I wouldn't name them Alice or Sora because those names don't originate from the Arabic countries that Magi takes place in and is based off of. This is only expectable in stories like PJO where it takes place in modern times with many different cultures and races but even then stray from names that are way to anime like. The names should also reflect their heritage a white American shouldn't have the name Sakura when neither parents have any relations to that culture now this can change depending on different factors but generally you should stray from doing this without any real logical reason. It would be like naming a Japanese girl without any realtions to America Beth, it just doesn't make any sense.
Clothes. What a character wears should reflect upon their personality, environment, career, and heritage. If my character is in a zombie apocalypse skimpy clothes such as short skirts, revealing tops, tight fitting clothes, and high heels are not ment for this environment. In AoT mid dirft, BOOBS, and overly tight and short clothes aren't also fitting. Not only are you fighting monsters in these clothes and you want the most protection possible. Stories like AoT are set way back in the past these clothes wouldn't even exist but it would be seen as highly and I mean HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE!! If you wouldn't want to fight a monster and run around all day in what you're making your oc wear don't do it. Also different cultures have different rules and you should at least give them a look over. Don't forget personality if your character is shy and quiet don't be afraid to show that in their clothing.
Boobs. If they are bigger than my head just stop. If in the show a character does have big boobs like the ones you want to give your oc than go ahead do it ,but if they don't I wouldn't risk it anything bigger than a double d. Anything else is way too big in my opinion.
Eye color. I can't believe I have to go over this but rainbow is not an eye color. Remember unless a character in the show has it you should probably stay away from doing it. No character in Tokyo ghoul or haikyuu have neon yellow eyes (this does not count Bokuto, he may have yellow eyes but I'm talking about YELLOW not yellow. This also does not include animals like cats cause they are able to have theses kinds of traits) so why would you think it's acceptable to have your oc to have that. Now let's say a fandom like homestuck and your want your character to have bright neon yellow eyes go ahead. Rainbow is also not a natural born hair color not even in yugioh would i accept this. They have to dye their hair to achieve this okay, okay.
