It's finally here. After three years of planning it out and talking about it. The big city next to me called Olympia is holding a giant sports competition. They are calling it the Olympic Games. The games are a set of sport based competitions to honor Zeus. I guess I never told you who I am, I'm Elia and I plan to be the discus winner of the first games. I live in very small town right off of Olympia called Pisa. My father is also planning to play in the games, he's doing the foot race. He has got the fastest time in town, I know he will do great. Even though i'm competing I get to help set up the games because i'm the only one who can rally up 100 oxen. We use the oxen in the middle of the games, we have to sacrifice them for Zeus. These games are for him, to show our honor, we must make sure our point gets across, so we are making this into a big deal. After the runners win, they are gifted with a an olive leaf crown.

I have been waiting so long for this day to come, today is the day, we are packing our stuff to go to the coliseum. The walk is a long walk, 20 miles through dark woods and mountains. As we get halfway there my dad sat down, saying he couldn't do it. My mother told him to get up and stop kidding around, so he got up and we kept walking. Carrying discus 20 miles sure is a work out. Plus after this long walk, I have to rally the oxen tomorrow, It should take a while.

When we arrived to the city I decided to go to the woods and walk around, I sat down on a old tree stump to take a break and began to think of how proud everyone back in town will bewhen we come back as winners. The first winners, and the ones who hold honor to Zeus. Everyone back in town will be so happy, unless we don't win. Yeah, my first doubt. What if we aren't good enough and everyone there is so much better than us? We could humiliate ourselves. I was thinking about my technique and thinking of how I throw my discus, but I drifted off and fell asleep. I woke up around 9 am and ran back to my family. They were all still asleep, I tried to go back to sleep but I couldn't sleep. I still had 3 hours before I needed to start rallying, but since I had nothing better to do I ran out to the field and started. I tried for a few minutes to think of a way to do it but none of them seemed to care so I just walked them over to the fence and got them in.

After rallying up the oxen I had to run to the stadium to tell them I finished and then they let me practice. I started practicing and then on my 6th throw a bell rang. They called us over to tell us the schedule for tomorrow, my games are first. I ran back to the woods and started giving myself a pep talk, 'you can do it, you are the best in town, no matter what place you make you're still the top somewhere. I couldn't believe anything I said, all I was thinking about was how good all the other throwers must be. But I went back to the holding cabins and slept so I would be well rested for tomorrow.

I woke up and put on my black, silver and green uniform. It was the day, I would finally find out if I was good enough. I'm scared, I don't know what to do. I ran to the field and lined up waiting to be checked in. I checked in and they gave me my lane number and my disc, they said we got three throws. They seemed really light. They said that when they called us up we would throw. All the girls around me looked so strong, when the first girl did her first throw she got 20 feet. The marker called me up and i took my place. The disc became really heavy in my hand. As I looked around while setting up all the other players were laughing. With the sweat rolling down my face I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I took my first throw and got 13 feet, that's horrible! The laughter roared through the stadium and marked their places in my head.

I'll never be good enough for these games. But I wasn't done yet. Last throw and as I walked up there sick to my stomach, I wanted to prove them wrong. I got in my place, Stood tall and took a deep breath. I wanted to prove those players wrong, and I did. 28 feet, The farthest throw in not only my town but any of the towns competing! After they were all done telling me I did a good job i looked over to my dad and saw him running, he was so fast. He made it to second place but by the time it came to the end he made it up to first.

After all the events were done everyone moved to the center and they called up the winners from all events. Me and my dad both were both called up and stood next to each other. A line of five people walked out with the Olive leaf crowns. I've never been so happy to smell those Olive green leaves, I have always hated it since I had to farm those. The smell of olive and freshly watered grass fills the air and spreads a smile on my face, bigger then I have ever smiled.

I have never felt better in my life more than when that crown was put onto my head. When they said my name and lowered the crown I knew mom would be proud. Everyone at home would be proud. I was happy. I heard my dad's name get called and when they put his crown down they dismissed us and let us go back to our cities. We ran back to town and everyone was there to greet us, asking us what happened and if we placed. I have never seen a bigger smile on my mom's face before. We sent three days talking about it and explaining everything. My friends were so happy and proud of me. I Became the first discus winner of the Olympic games and never thought a town like mine could have so much spirit till now.
