"Allison, you must keep this pendant with you at all times. Don't ever lose it or take it off."
"Why Daddy? What's so important about it?"
"This pendant is important Allison, because without it you won't ever find your soulmate. Now just listen to me darling. Let me explain. See that blue glow coming from inside the necklace?"
I look at the pendant in his hand and see that it is indeed glowing slightly blue. My father hands me the pendant. It feels cold and heavy. It is very beautiful, with intricate details engraved. It was in an oval shape and on the back has With This Pendant I Shall Find My Soul Mate inscribed on the back.
"Yes Daddy. I see the blue"
"Well my darling. Do you see how mine is red?"
My Dad picks up his identical pendant and shows me how his is giving off a red glow.
"Here darling, hold mine and feel the difference between yours and mine."
He hands me his pendant and I instantly feel the difference. While mine is cold and heavy, his is warm and as light as a feather. He takes his pendant out of my hands and slips it around his neck.
"Your probably wondering why mine is like this and yours is like that. Well darling...
"Allison! Are you listening to me?" my calculus teacher Mr. Harris says.
I look around me and see the rest of the class snickering at me. Gee, thanks for the support guys. I roll my eyes and reply "Of course I am Sir, I just lost interest and started thinking about all the better things I could be doing. I was listening though"
"Watch yourself Argent" he tells me.
I roll my eyes and Mr. Harris continues his boring lesson. He was right. I wasn't listening at all. How could I listen while I've got so much on my mind? I look down at the oval pendant that always hangs around my neck. It was glowing blue like it always did. I look around me. Everyone was wearing their pendants, why would anyone take it off when they meant so much?
Suddenly the classroom door opens, interrupting my train of thought. I look up like the rest the class and instantly smile when I see it's my best friend, Tyler.
"Posey! Why the hell are you late?" Mr. Harris yells.
"Well Sir, you see, I woke up this morning and I realised it was quite a special day. I realised that it was my, oh so sick, grandmothers birthday. She is turning 100 today Sir but she is so sick! So I thought it would be appropriate for me to go say happy birthday! Maybe once and for all.." He looks down at the ground and even wipes a fake tear from his eye. Wow, he is good!
"Oh I'm sorry to hear that she is sick Posey. Please take a seat." Mr. Harris replies in a soft voice.
Tyler struts over to the seat next to me and before he sits down winks at me. Of course I know better than to believe that it's his 'sick' grandmothers birthday. I know that his grandmother, Linda, is currently 75 and is living under the same roof as him. I wink back at him and chuckle slightly. Of course the class tyrant, Bennet, sees Tyler and I together and as always decides to tell the whole class.
"Hey guys! Look at Allison and Tyler, who's gonna bet they aren't just 'best friends'. Pfft best friends shouldn't always be at each others house or lurking around the school together. I see something more than just 'best friends' going on here. Probably made out last night!"
Laughter erupts throughout the class and Bennet looks at me and smirks. Of course no one understands that Tyler and I are pretty much siblings. Our parents have being best friends since preschool so we had no choice but to become best friends too. We never had a problem with that though, we genuinely love each other. Of course, only in a friend type of way.
I look over at Tyler and we both just roll our eyes and continue with our work. Wow, this was going to be a long day!
