The world did not end in a bang, or a whisper, but rather one scream at a time. It first started back in May. That's when they revealed themselves. Those who didn't bend at their will were killed in the most painful ways. They like to make us scream. I don't know what they are, or were they were hiding but now it doesn't matter. They first took over some town in Virginia. Poor people. They didn't stand a chance. Whatever monster they are, they don't like to be fought against. So they killed anyone who fought back. It's now the end of august. They haven't reached my town, but just last night I could hear the screams from the town 20 minutes from here. I don't know what to do. My mother wants to go into hiding in the cellars. But I don't think that's a smart idea. What if they take it as a sign of resistance? I wish to live, not die.

"Cory. Come honey. We're locking the cellar now." My mom said as she placed a hand on my shoulder.

"I'm staying up here. I'll surrender myself. I don't wish to die, Mother." I told her while staring out the window. She sighed. We've had this talk before but she insists i go down. But I won't.

"Fine. But once I lock the doors they stay locked. No matter how much you knock."

I ignored her. They won't hurt me. Not if I'm willing. She walked away. I could hear the others going down the basement, then a few minutes later I heard the click of the lock. I probably won't see my family again.

I sat at the window for about an hour before I heard Callie, my sister, pounding on the basement door screaming my name.

"Cory! Cory! Ethan was taking a nap. Oh god I forgot him in his crib. Mom won't let me get him. Please. Please. Get him. Keep him safe please."

"I'll protect him Callie. Don't worry." I said.

I quickly ran upstairs and looked at him. He's a cutie. Only 4 months old. I decided to pack a bag full of formula, diapers, and clothes for him. I don't know what's going to happen to us but I don't want him to go hungry.

Going back down stairs I sat at the window again. Just waiting. After two hours went by I saw people in the distance. A huge group of them, walking, laughing. Most had blood on their clothes. They must be the monsters. But they look so beautiful. I don't understand.

I took a deep breath and stood up. Hopefully things work out. I picked up the diaper bag and walked outside. The monsters stopped laughing and all glared at me. It was a frightening sight.

"I-I don't want to fight you." I said. My voice kept shaking. "Please." Oh gosh, why didn't I think about what I would say. "I'll do what you want willingly."

They continued to stare at me, then finally one of the guys in the middle cracked a smile. "Finally, at least one of the humans have come to their senses." He laughed. I couldn't believe how beautiful he was. He approached me and looked at the bag. "Are there any weapons in there? I know you humans can be tricky."

"N-no. Only stuff for him." I looked down at Ethan. I can't believe he's still sleeping.

The man, no, monster looked me in the eyes. "Is there anyone else in the house?" He asked. I don't want to sell my family out, but I also don't want to lie to them. I want to live. "You did say you'd do what we want. And in my book, that includes telling us what we want."

"My family is inside." I said, looking down. Please don't hurt them.

"Where?"

"In the basement. The door is locked from the inside." I told them. "Please don't hurt them. They can't harm you"

He laughed, "Whether they live or not depends on how they act. Now, you're going to walk with Jace. He's going to take you to the middle of town. That's where we're bringing all those who will live." He went to walk away but then turned back, "Oh, and if you resist, you will die. I hate liars."

The people all started to walk away, going to different houses. It's like they already know which houses to go to.

"Come on, little girl. I don't have all day." The man, Jace, said. Jace looked to be about 23. He's gorgeous. He has brown hair that looks so soft and then he has bright blue eyes. It's not surprising that they were able to hide. They're just hotter versions of us humans.

We got to the middle of town and Jace ties one of my arms to the huge clock. The only reason he left the other one untied is because of Ethan.

"Help. They're here. Please help me." I could hear people starting to scream. I hope my family didn't resist to much. I'd feel like it's my fault if they died.

After a few hours of screaming and crying, a few trucks came and the monsters started giving people shots and loading them in the vehicle. I wonder what the shots were for. One to the monsters who were giving the shots stopped in front of me.

"Wait," I looked over at who said that. If the was leader from before. "Do her last." The lady nodded and walked away.

"What are the shots for?" I asked him. I wish I knew his name. He smiled.

"They put you to sleep for a few hours. Keeps the vans quiet while we get you humans situated." He looked down at Ethan. Ethan finally woke up not to long ago. Shockingly he's been pretty quiet. Which is strange for him.

"I'm going to need to take him. We have separate transportation for infants."

They can't take him from me. I promised Callie I'd take care of him. "Will I get him back?" I have to get him back.

"I can't say you will. A lot of it will depend on your behavior."

I nodded. There's no use arguing. If I even argue I could lose my chance with him. I kissed Ethan's forehead then handed him to the man. "What's your name?"

"Declan Clipse. I'll put in a good word for you, you should be able to get him back as long as you keep acting as you are now."

"Okay." I whispered and looked down.

"Atara!" Declan yelled. One of the ladies doing the shots came running over. "Do her now."

The shot was so painful, like fire running through my veins, but I couldn't cry out. It hurts so bad but I can't make a noise. My eyelids started getting heavy and my mind foggy. The last thing I saw before my eyes shut was Declan walking away with a crying Ethan.
