November 5th

The bells were really loud on November 5th. Light stared blankly at L's pale face, trying to understand what brought them to the point where they both were. It wasn't meant to finish this way, he thought. Since the very beginning, since the day L introduced himself to Light as Ryuga, their destiny was diametrically different from what has just happened. And from what was going to happen in a few seconds, the inevitable. These few seconds seemed to last forever to young Light Yagami.

He shook his head as if to dismiss all doubts he had. It was the right thing to do, he tried to convince himself. Anyway, it was already too late to change his decisions.

L, on his side, didn't make any movement. He was standing frozen, although "standing" was too much to say. More like he was leaning livelessly on Light's shoulder. Yagami did his best not to let L's limp body slump to the ground.

People summoned around the two boys sobbed quietly, excluding Misa Amane, who burst into tears the moment she saw frightened Light holding L's hand. It was hard to say if she was crying of disappointment or joy, pleased that Light made his biggest dream come true, but this was the last thing for Light to wonder about.

'Life will never be the same' he whispered, holding L tighter as if this could make the older boy hear his words. L said nothing, he just wasn't able to speak anymore.

Light turned to Ryuk with a worried expression on his face. The shinigami, standing right behind him, was watching the whole scene, not even trying to hide his amusement.

'Maybe I shouldn't have done it to L? Ryuk, what do you think?'

'You're so indecisive' sighed the god of death. 'You'd better stop thinking about it and carry this Ryuzaki guy out of here'

'Sure. But please, be that nice and don't refer to him as Ryuzaki guy okay? He's my boyfriend, remember?'

'He was your boyfriend' reminded Ryuk cruelly.

On November 6th, the bells remained silent to let Light Yagami fully celebrate his own little victory over L, world's greatest detective.

He woke up late with a smile of satisfaction, enjoying every single second of the morning. Awoken by sunshine, he opened his eyes right to see L's head peacefully laid down on a pillow just inches away from his own. Light gently stroked L's cheek, amazed by how adorable he was.

'Good morning, sweetie' he murmured into L's ear and softly kissed his forehead. Then his chin, his lips and so he continued kissing L all over his face until the older boy was also awoken.

'Good morning' L answered in a sleepy voice. Light couldn't say if  he was still dreaming or he was disturbed for some other reason.

'Is everything alright? Did you sleep well?' He asked L anxoiusly.

A spark of happiness in L's eyes was a sufficient reply.

'How could I not sleep well on our wedding night?'

Not for the first time since he was dating L, Light had a warm feeling that overtook him all at once. Still dazzled by L's beauty, Light  started playing with his hair till a devilish grin suddenly appeared on Yagami's face. He poked L teasingly.

'You were such a funny bride' he said in a mocking voice.

'Wasn't I good enough?' L saddened.

Light allowed himself to laugh a little.

'Nah, you were perfect as always. It's just that... you seemed so stressed. You could barely move, I had to carry you through the whole aisle in the church...'

'Um, probably' L was genuinely embarrased 'I'm sorry, Light'

'Nevermind' Light laughed again. 'But I became really worried when you didn't say a word during the mariage vow. You only nodded your head slightly to acknowledge the priest you actually wanted to be my husband. I was afraid that you were'nt ready for this, that I somehow forced you to marry me'

While Light was talking, tears began to flow into L's eyes. He pulled up knees under his chin and began to lap silently.

'It's not like that. I was perfectly happy to be all yours and have you all mine. That moment, like never before, I was sure you're the love of my life' L explained. 'Expressing my emotions isn't something that I'm used to. I am really sorry for having disappointed you'

A single tear ran down his cheek as Light wiped it off, placing the other hand on L's waist.

'You don't need to apologize. I adore you the way you are. And, no matter what, I will always be there to make you feel comfortable'

And this promise meant to both of them much more than what Light has said in the church, accompanied by the bells.
