A sash of esteem that covers my face;
Blinds my mother who knows my distaste.
I'm living in pain that I want to replace.
A pain that's changed, but never erased.
And, I pray to God to take away the burden
Of a childhood that was so quickly taken.
Please don't cry, Mom, the worst is behind me;
The best part is coming, I know, you will see.
One day I'll be a man.
One that lives without grief.
