"-and remember, this is just your first semester so no getting into trouble with lecturers or anything like that, okay?"
I rolled my eyes for the umpteenth time since my mom started her pep talk. This was so stupid, I mean, for crying out loud, woman, I'm practically nineteen.
"OKAY?"she broke into my thoughts. " Uh, yeah, whatever. " I picked at my fingernails. "Sweetie I've told you before that picking your nails is a really bad habit .Stop it."
I huffed and stood up. If I didn't get going now, I would have to drive at night which, personally, I love ,but my overprotective parents are totally against."Bye mom."
"Mom?" She inquired.
"Ugh, bye mother."
For some reason she prefers I call her mother , not mom. Says its more formal or some shit.
"Tell dad I love him."
I waited for a reply, but hearing none, I turned to leave before---
"AL! Were you planning to leave without saying goodbye to me?!"
---before my bratty little sister sees me.
"Frankly, yes, I didn't wanna see you anyway." I said. I saw a flash of hurt appear behind her pale blue eyes but I really didn't care. I got into my car and started it, then she appeared at my window before I could hit the gas. I wound down halfway, and being the brat that she is she stuck her hand in and wound down fully.
"I'll miss you Al."
"Uh, yeah, me too." I said. I wanted to speed up this conversation as much as possible. "I know you won't really miss me, but I'll miss you cray-cray."
"Um....yeah....."
"Alright Al......Bye..."
"Bye."
I sped off before the situation could get any more awkward. People have always told me I'm cruel, but I really don't give a shit.
The drive to NYU was long but rewarding, as I pulled into the NYU parking lot. I flung open the trunk and pulled out my luggage. Not much actually, just a knapsack and a box was all. I carelessly flung the knapsack over my shoulder and walked into the front lobby of NYU.

My eyes widened at the sight of over thirty students on the queue waiting to pick their forms and shit. I scanned the area for any chairs i could sit on to make my wait more comfortable at least.
I finally spotted one and slumped into it. This was going to be a long day.

******************************

I woke up to a strong tapping on my shoulder. I didn't even realize I had dozed off during my wait. I lifted my eyes to meet a frame...a hot frame if I might add. "You're on my seat" he said. Wow, he had a nice voice. "Your seat?" I repeated groggily. "YES, my seat
I left to get a soda to come back and meet you asleep on my seat. My feet are killing me now so I would like to take it back." I sighed and got up, "I'm sorry. Didn't realize it was taken." I took a moment to absorb his features before I moved my gaze to the line. He had dirty blonde hair and piercing green eyes, a few tattoos here and there, his neck, arm, not much. He towered over me and probably worked out. He could easily pass for a Calvin Klein model. "Staring's rude you know." He huffed. "Umm, yeah...sorry" I quickly muttered before turning on my heel to check on the line. Luckily,  most people had gone. I walked up to the lady behind the counter. She looked at me like she was expecting me to say something. I stared at my hands. What was I supposed to say? I finally found my voice and said the first thing I could think of. " Um..my name's Alexah Whyte....I'm a new student here..." She raised her eyes to meet mine and gave an exasperating sigh before lowering her eyes once more to the screen on her desktop. She clicked around for a few seconds before meeting my nervous gaze again....I didn't know why I felt so nervous though. The lady opened a drawer and pulled out a little envelope which she handed to me. I thanked her and moved out of the way before ripping it open to see a dorm key, map, and class timetables. I took one more deep breath as I adjusted my knapsack and headed up the elevator to my dorm room 319.
