Chapter 8- Crash and burn

Matt’s POV

I woke up before Anna did that morning, I told myself it was because I was in a new house, but my body told me it was because I had gone to long without a drink.

I carefully untangled myself form Anna’s death grip and pulled on a pair of sweat pants. When I was safely out of our room I went down to my office. There was a safe on the back wall that only I had the code to, it came in convenient when you didn’t want your wife to find your stash. Opening the safe I pulled out a small bottle of vodka out and closed the safe again. I took a small sip as I looked down at my desk which was scattered with papers. I had just come back from tour and already I was getting booked up again, the stress was killing me.

“Don’t you like a little coffee with your vodka?”

My head snapped up, Devin was standing in the doorway. His face was completely blank but his eyes were blazing with anger.

“What do you want?” I asked, looking back down at my papers

“You know” Devin said “I had a hunch that you were drinking again, but for Anna’s sake I was praying that you weren’t”

“It’s only a little bit” I told him, capping the bottle back up and putting it in the safe

“Mathew” Devin said “You’re an alcoholic, you can’t have just a little bit”

“Im fine” I said “Dev calm down”

“Matt this is not fine” Devin exclaimed “Your putting your wife and child at risk!”

“Im not putting them at risk!” I snapped, getting angry at his accusation “I’m fine, I won’t hurt her or the baby”

“You had better not” Devin said in a deadly low voice, his face turning just as deadly “Because if you do, I don’t care if you’re my brother I will kill you myself”

We stood there for a brief moment, glaring into each other’s eyes, I had no doubt in my mind that he meant what he said, I felt the same way though.

“Matt?”

My eyes snapped to the doorway, Anna was walking in, dressed in one of my t-shirt and her plush robe.

She looked pretty blurry eyed still so she must have come straight downstairs when she realised I was gone.

“Hey sweetheart” I turned on my smile, wrapping her up in my arms. “Devin just stopped by to see how we were doing”

Devin smiled to, all the anger that had just been on his face melted away.

“Amanda is in the kitchen” He said sweetly “She wanted to see you to”

Anna’s face brightened instantly when she heard that her best friend was here, she wiggled out of my arms and left, a huge smile on her face. When she was gone, both mine and my brothers smiles melted away.

“It’s my life Dev.” I said coldly “Stay out of it”

Devin’s expression darkened

“That is my niece or nephew” he snarled “And my baby sister, your hurt them I hurt you”

He turned and stormed out of the room then, leaving me to glare after him

She was my wife and that was my baby, I would never hurt them.

Anna’s POV

As the weeks went by I noticed the differences in Matt more and more. He was moodier, one second he would be fine and the next he would just snap. He seemed to walk around with a darkness around him and I just couldn’t figure out why. I’m not going to lie, it scared me a bit and reminded me of when he had been drinking, I probably should have admitted to myself what was happening but I just couldn’t, I was so scared. I should have told Devin but I didn’t know how, I knew how much it had hurt his family before, I didn’t want to go through it again, I just hoped that whatever it was that was bothering Mathew would go away eventually.
