Blessed be the paradise, for those who seek it,
To come affront you, mere for your gleams, I desire
This is a couplet from a poem by Iqbal titled "Ishq ki inteha" or "extremity of love". It brings back memories, dreams and a lot more. It revives within a feeling of nostalgic longing. A longing which arises perhaps from the depth of soul from beyond the barrier of time.
Muslims believe that before the souls inhabited the present physical bodies they were present before The Creator and acknowledged Him in unison. This acknowledgement bore multiple layered connotations. The souls experienced many things in that realm of existence. It is believed that in that spiritual realm of existence, souls felt affinity and repulsion which translated itself into this physical life. This might explain the situation when you feel, "you already know someone" when you meet them and feel an attraction towards them.
Then the souls were put to sleep ( a sort of death overcame them), after which they found themselves in the physical bodies they inhabit but without memories from the previous state of existence. Left just with an instinct to help them navigate towards their destination, they wander this world, leading lives that appear to be mundane and routine on the surface. These souls when enlightened and synchronized with the innate nature, it blooms in the form of a beautiful experience and guide them towards their ultimate goals.
Life thus happened and so did death. Memories faded and were resurrected and the moment had passed.
"And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified."...~The Nobel Qur'an [7:172]
