Sans's P.O.V.

As I was sitting at the kitchen table, I was rolling a gold coin back and forth with my finger. Mettaton and Papyrus were going out tonight for his and Papyrus's anniversary---three months together. I felt like something was wrong with me. I wasn't supposed to feel this way. I was supposed to be happy. "So why am I not?" I whispered to myself, putting my other hand on my skull. "SANS! IS EVERYTHING ALRIGHT? I HAVEN'T HEARD YOU MAKE A PUN IN TWO HOURS! OR MUCH OF ANYTHING, REALLY..." Papyrus said in his loud voice. I jumped a little bit and chuckled. "Oh, yeah I'm fine. And wow I'm surprised that you miss my humerus puns."

Papyrus sighed at my terrible pun but he had a smile on his face. "WELL...IF YOU SAY SO. OH! METTATON WILL BE HERE IN A FEW MINUTES, BY THE WAY." His eye sockets lit up as he said Mettaton's name. I felt my soul sink a bit. Ugh...why did I have to be this way? Just as I was about to say something else, Mettaton burst through the door. "Papy darling! I'm here~" The flamboyant robot said rather dramatically. I rolled my eye sockets. Thankfully, Papyrus didn't seem to notice. "HELLO METTATON! HOW ARE YOU?" Papyrus asked as he left the kitchen.

Normally, I'm a pretty lazy pile of bones; but I wanted to watch them, so I got up and leaned against the door frame. "Oh I'm FABULOUS darling! Are you ready to go~?" He purred, hugging my brother close. A burning sensation began to build within my soul. Unintentionally, my eye began to glow. I quickly blinked and it stopped. "Sans darling are you alright?" Mettaton asked, noticing my glare. "Oh. Yeah. I'm fine." I snapped. Mettaton seemed to be taken aback. "Well. Alright then. Papy dear, should we go out~?"

Papyrus seemed...hesitant? Why would he be hesitant? He gave me a sad look. "W-WELL...SANS WILL BE ALL BY HIMSELF!"  He replied, smiling nervously. Mettaton frowned, shot me a glare and returned his focus to Papyrus. "But Papy...we've had this planned for a few weeks. Besides, Sans isn't a babybones; I'm sure he can take care of himself." He sounded like he was starting to get mad. Papyrus seemed to hesitate again. Now what's up with him? I wondered. He had seemed so...excited for this.

  "I-I KNOW...MAYBE...MAYBE WE CAN JUST STAY HERE...?" Papyrus persisted, sounding anxious. I saw Mettaton clutch his hand into a fist. My eye instantly lit up. If he was gonna hit my brother...However, Mettaton sighed with frustration and crossed his arms instead. "Alright, fine...you win, Papy..." He sighed, mumbling something under his breath. Papyrus didn't seem to notice. "So...where we headin'?" I asked smugly, chuckling at Mettaton's angry face. "WELL...WE PLANNED TO GO SIT BY THE ECHO FLOWERS!" Papyrus said brightly.

Mettaton pouted as I walked over. "Sounds good to me. Should I get dressed up?" I snickered, Mettaton's annoyed face filling me with bliss. "NYEH HEH HEH! THERE'S NO NEED, BROTHER! SHALL WE GO METTATON?" His voice was cheerful and confident, the way I loved to hear it. I blushed a bit and shook my head. Don't think that way, I scolded myself. Mettaton forcefully grabbed Papyrus's arm and started to walk out. Papyrus had let out a "nyeh" of surprise but continued to walk with him. I quickly followed suit, slightly frustrated by Mettaton's action.

{At WaterFall, near the echo flowers}

The water was calm and soothing, the slight glow of the flowers gorgeously illuminating the area around them. I stared at my own reflection, my hands shoved into my pockets, a tired look on my face. Mettaton and Papyrus were sitting a few feet behind me, mostly Mettaton doing the talking. All of the sudden, he sounded irritated again. "Papy, this is supposed to be OUR night. It's bad enough he's already here." I flinched at his words, feeling even worse than I already did. The whole reason I wanted to come with them was because I was jealous...I had been for a long time.

I could tell I was blushing again and shied away from my reflection. "W-What's wrong with me..." I mumbled, putting my hood up. I jumped as someone put my hood down. I whipped around, relieved to see that it was my brother. I flashed him a smile, hoping he wouldn't notice my blush. "Are you alright, Sans?" He asked rather quietly. My eyes widened as I realized he was slightly blushing as well. His hand was gently resting on my shoulder, and I could feel my blush deepen as his worried eyes stared into mine.

"Y-Yeah, Paps, I'm fine. What about Mettaton?" I asked, trying to distract him. It's not that I didn't want him to be close to me---the exact opposite, really---but I REALLY didn't want him to ask me why I was blushing. The energetic robot was pulling petals off of an echo flower, his face twisted with frustration. Papyrus sighed, letting his hand slip off my shoulder. "Perhaps we should just go home." I smiled and lightly tugged Papyrus's scarf as he turned around. "Nyeh?"

"Looks like Mettaton's---"

"Sans please don't..."

"In a TEAR-able mood," I said with a wink. Instead of yelling at me like I thought he would, he simply smiled and sighed, lightly blushing again. For a split second, my soul shimmered, a wave of joy filling my entire body. But it soon fell as he walked back over to his boyfriend, a painful, aching longing overpowering the brief happiness I had just felt. I loved my brother so much, yet the aching feeling of knowing that he couldn't feel the same...made me want to cry, honestly. I sniffed and sighed, putting my smile back on. Just as I turned around, Mettaton was stomping past me, his arms at his sides, his hands clenched into fists.

{Back at the house}

Papyrus was much quieter than usual, making me feel nervous and uncomfortable. He was sitting on the couch, playing with his scarf, an odd expression on his face. He seemed...confused, to me. I sat next to him awkwardly, unsure what to say. He seemed startled by my presence at first but soon relaxed. I rubbed the back of my neck as I said, "Hey, uh...you ok, Bro?"

My question made him uncomfortable. "Of course, brother!" He replied nervously, messing with his scarf some more. I shoved my hands into my pockets, leaning back and looking straight at him. "Are you sure? You've been acting kind of odd lately..." Papyrus sighed and smiled, laughing. "Of course I'm sure, my dear Sans! It's getting late, I think we should sleep." He gave me a tight hug before getting up and going upstairs, his cape elegantly bouncing with his steps. I closed my eyes and grinned, relishing in the feeling of his hug.
