THE THREE WISHES

chapter one

Dominic's pov

It was just a normal day as i was walking through the forest that was behind my small hut. I had just left my wife Asha so that i could go fishing and bring home something for lunch. The lake had been very dry lately and the fish had migrated to the other side of the lake. I had no energy to walk that distance since i had not had a real meal in many days. But i had to find something because my wife was starving as i was too.

I watched my surroundings and it was just green everywhere, trees and bushes bu t greenery was no t a healthy green due to the drought. I had a long way to go before i reach the end of the forest where there was the lake.

I wish i had a better skill maybe if i was a carpenter people would buy my furniture and i could provide for my wife but anyway we lived far from civilization due to the shame of our poverty. Sometimes i wondered why married Asha then i remembered how much i loved and could not loose her no matter waht. I loved her too much.

I started seeing the water ahead of and hurried my footsteps, finally there was light at the end of the tunnel. I almost started running but i did not have that much strength. I heard my stomach growl painfully and i clutched it. It was too painful. I had hope that if i caught at least four fish it would sustain us for a few days before i came back to the lake.

I saw my dinghy and hurriedly pushed it in the water and took the oars and started rowing the dinghy. Once in the middle of the lake i reached behind me to grab the net and cast it in the water i stayed still and waited for movement in the net. I felt slight movement and pulled it from the water. There was a small fish inside the struggling to get out but it was useless i untangled the net and removed it and it was already dead. I felt a little bit satisfied and cast the net again and wited. After a few minutes there was movement i reached for the net quickly and the movement became more. I started to panic. The dinghy was moving so much i thought for sure i would really capsize and that would be the end of me. I finally managed to lift the net overboard onto the dinghy. What i saw made my eyes widen in shock

It was abig fish that was on the net. I didnt even want to look at it. It had the most shiny silver scales i had ever seen. My eyes hurt just from looking at it. Then its eyes looked at me and i was hit hard by the pain and sorrow i saw in its eyes it was like it was a human being. I didnt know what to do.

"Hello Dominic put me back in the water and i shall give you something that u have ever wanted."

I heard a very powerful voice coming from the fish directly into my mind. I was speechless to say the least. I did not have an idea of what to say. My mind was blank so i just stared.

"Who.....how....what.... are you" i stammered from my numb lips.

"I am the king of the oceans,of all creatures in the water. Put me back in the water and i will help you get what you wish for."

The voice said. I hurried forward and untangled him from thenet and then slipped him over the dinghy's side.

"I grant you and your wife three wishes use them wisely for it is a rare gift to you and they will expire by tommorrow same time you make your first wish. I hope you use wisdom in all your choices. Thank you my friend for saving me."

And then it swam away. I was so stunned that i stared into the clear water. I felt dizzy all over sudden. I started rowing the boat towards the shore so i could get to my wife fast enough.

I pushed the dinghy to the shore and that was when i realized what i had been given. I started jogging towards our little hut.

I had three wishes to make.
