As the leaves began their change and the wind became crisper Emily knew what this meant, back to school. Luckily she did not go to a normal school like everyone else. Emily was a wizard, and as September came so did her third year of Hogwarts. Even if they received truckloads of homework (even in their first and second year) she was delighted to return.
Although she was ready to return she was less than exited to leave her family. Her mother, came from a half-blood home (Emily's grandfather being a muggle) . Emily's father is a pure blood, who actually loves muggles. Emily has two brothers, Elijah being the oldest and Evan, her twin. Her mother was a Gryffindor and her father, a Ravenclaw. The young witch was very proud to be a Gryffindor like her mother, but her brothers were both Hufflepuff.
Elijah had already graduated from hogwarts and decided to go into muggle film making, just as their parents worked and lived like muggles. Emily never understood why anyone would want to live like wizard, were everything is done so easily, she enjoyed the satisfaction of doing things herself. That and she loves muggle movies.
On the morning of September first Emily sits in front of her bed, examining her trunk for the hundredth time. Everything was there; her books, robes, quills, everything. But she still couldn't help worrying she might forget something like she always did. Evan was already ready, as usual, and he was still dishing out hugs to anyone who passed like he does every September first. Emily loved her twin brother more than anything, even if he had a lot of anxieties and quirks.
Finally Emily arose and strode to the bathroom, giving her twin a pat on the back while she passed. When she reached the bathroom she simply stood and examined herself. She wasn't thin, nor was she fat. She could easily be described as pear shaped, which bothered her. She messed with her hair a little and tried to flatten her puffy brunette hair in certain places, but to no avail. She also studied the dark circled under her hazel eyes , but simply shrugged, there was nothing she could do about that now.
When they reached platform nine and three quarters the twins scanned the crowd for their friends. All they saw were other wizards clad in their robes and hats, helping their children onto the train and giving hugs. They decided to find their friends once they boarded the train and started to load up their things.
After hugging their parents goodbye Evan and Emily boarded the train.
They stood in the corridor , trying to decide which way to go. They looked so different standing next to each other, they both had thick brown hair but Evan was about two and a half heads taller than his sister. Emily stood with nice posture, whereas her brother slouched. Evan pushed his glasses up his button nose.
" I don't see anyo- " he cut himself off as he spotted his friends. Without a word he strode over and followed his friends. Emily simply sighed at her brother and went off to find her friends.
After a few minutes of searching the hogwarts express she finally found the car with her friends. Emily stood leaning against the sliding door , waiting for her friends to notice. In the car sat four other teenagers. First there was Cayenne, a feisty blond with a big personality ( and mouth ). Next to her was a thin dirty blonde girl named Bianca. Bianca was the spontaneous one of the bunch, also known as the one who scooped up McGonagall (while in cat form) and fawned over her before realizing it was her professor. Sitting opposite was Sarah, who was the tallest of the bunch. Emily had always thought the world of her, especially because Sarah has the coolest ombre hair. Sitting hip to hip with Sarah was her boyfriend Gage. Gage was hilariously shorter than the girls, but was actually the kindest.
Gage waved with a cheeky grin to Emily, whom he considered a sister. Emily sighed sarcastically "Wow that's the fastest you've ever recognized my presence. " The group chuckled as they exchanged greetings. Emily sat herself next to Sarah and Gage , but made sure to give the two plenty of space by seating herself by the window. "How were your summers?" Emily asked, comfortably adjusting herself in the seat's corner. "Great!" Bianca spouted, her grin just as wide as Emily had remembered. Cayenne shrugged "Really cool. Except my brother finally went of to the military." she added the last part in a disappointed manner. Like Emily, they all lived pretty much like muggles. In fact they were all friends because they had coincidentally went to the same muggle school growing up.
Gage ran his free hand through the thick black curls that sat atop his head, in which his other arm was slung across Sarah's shoulders. "I got a new knife." Gage said causally, but with a sadistic grin (gage liked to collect knives for some reason). Sarah also nodded " I got a ton of new books." she declared with a little grin.
The train ride was filled with chatting as well as plans for the year. There was silence for a minute when Emily gasped at her blond friend. "CAYENNE, WHY ARE YOU DOING?!" she breathed in surprise. She had caught her friend sneakily trying to hide her smartphone in her shirt. Cayenne froze on the spot, her arm positioned like she was about to drop her phone down the front of her shirt. Gage and Sarah began to laugh rather loudly while Bianca and Emily simply chuckled a little. "I..i.. Want going to hide it in my shirt." she squeaked, chuckling herself, although she had clearly been caught. Gage and Sarah were now clutching their stomachs while they giggled. Emily gave her friend shifty eyes, she was known for being the mom friend, and these situations always made it seem that way. "Well, you shouldn't have brought it because technology doesn't work at Hogwarts" Emily scolded with a grin.
Their laughter was interrupted by a rapping at the glass door. It was the trolley selling candy. They all of course bought sweets from chocolate frogs to pumpkin pasties. Before the old trolley woman left she poked her head in once more and asked "Excuse me dears, but is Emily Clarke in here?" Emily perked up and meekly raised her hand. The old woman smiled and handed Emily an envelope. She winked then pushed the trolley away.
Emily turned the letter over in her hands. The envelope was crisp and sharp, with the Hogwarts wax seal on the back. She opened the letter and read it. It read; Dear Ms . Emily Clarke , we would like to inform you , you and three other third year girls will be sharing a room this year as a new attempt for encouraging more friendships between houses. As such your new roommates will be girls from the different houses. The girls you will be rooming with will be as follows;
Bianca Schultz - Ravenclaw
Cayenne Clifford - Hufflepuff
Sarah Collins - Slytherin .
Thank you, sincerely
Headmistress Minivera Mcgonagall
Emily looked around at her friends, a huge grin on her face.
"I think this is going to be a great year."
