Romeo watched painfully as Adelina pushed another box inside the moving truck.
They didn't really know each other. Adelina being his neighbor and them being 5 years apart didn't give them a lot in common, but her moving out somehow pained him. He observed as she approached the social services attended, probably announcing her she was done.
It had been a month since it all had happened, the police, the ambulance and the media had all been there to witness the after math of a homicide followed by the murderer's suicide.
He remembered clearly hearing the first gunshot followed by a second one, he remembered hearing Adelina's screams in horror, followed by the sound of sirens.
He remembered reading about the murder a few days later, the article explaining that Adelina's parent's marriage wasn't going strong. The mother threatening to leave with their daughter had caused the father to loose it, pulling out his gun, killing the mother first before shooting himself. The article also mentioned both parents' families, neither wanting anything to do with the poor Adelina who they blamed for the whole incident.
He couldn't imagine what it had to be like for her, her mother being murdered by her father, her entire family blaming her for it and reporters watching her every move.
After a while he brought his attention back to the moving trucks only to notice Adelina was already in a car. He watched as the social services attendant discussed with one of the drivers. After a short time the attendant got in the car, and for an instant Romeo's eyes met Adelina's. She smiled sorrowfully, he waved sadly.
And just like that the car took off, making its way down the road. Romeo stood in front of his window until he couldn't see the car anymore.
