When I woke up the sun was streaming into the room and onto my face. I sat up in my bed and looked around. I saw the same thing i wake up to everyday, the white walls and metal bed on which i was laying. Everything was so simple and peace-
"Hey brat! Foods here!" the guard outside my cell said.
He tossed the metal tray through the slot and it landed with a loud clank on the floor. The food spilled onto the floor revealing the mush we were forced to call food.
'So much for peaceful,' i thought to myself.
My name is Sylvia Ena-Easom Richard, but everyone here calls me Seer. I've been here, at Saint Mary's Home for Unstable Children, since i was 4 years old. I'm 13 now, do the math. I've been at this insane asylum, although they don't use that term for it, for 9 years.
I'm an orphan. My parents left me in an alley in New York when i was a month old. Their bodies were found two neighborhoods away, dead. I was sent to an orphanage, but when I told them that I saw demons in my room they immediately transferred me to Saint Mary's.
The clanking of metal alerted me to someone entering the room. I saw a man with raven black hair enter the room.
"Hello Sylvia, My name is-"
"Doctor Evans. You have a doctorate in psychological medicine. A wife and two little girls, and a mistress who doesn't live too far from your family. You're not a very good man at all Doctor, not at all."
He let out a nervous laugh and loosened his tie.
"Good guess little one-"
"I'm not little. And to answer your question on how i know. It's simple, you have a lipstick stain on your collar, your eyes reflect the love you have for your family, and the demon inside you told me." i said in a monotone voice.
I curled up closer to the corner of my bed and pulled my knees to my chest.
"And you take pleasure in taking advantage of your patients. That's why your original licence was taken away."
The kind mask he wore left and was replaced with a devious smirk.
"So, you are a very observant little girl... I find that very special in a psycho bitch like you."
"You talk like an idiot." I said
"How else would you understand me?" he asked as he walked over to me.
He put his hands on either side of my head and practically pinned me to the wall. Since i was sitting on the bed his knees were on either side of my legs. The guard outside was oblivious to the actions the doctor had taken, so i was seemingly trapped. I closed my eyes and focused. Taking a deep breath, i exhaled and with that breath my soul left with it.
When i was out of my body i watched what the doctor was doing. He had snaked his arm around my waist and was whispering something in my ear. From where i was i looked like a lifeless rag doll. I looked around the Doctor, trying to find any weak spots. I found one, his groin, it was unprotected and one good kick should've sent him into a world of pain.
My body inhaled and when it did i flew back into it. When i opened my eyes the i saw the doctor's face getting closer to mine. I turned away in disgust and delivered a hard kick to his groin. He fell back and landed on the floor. He was kneeling now. Kneeling in front of me. Rage and pain filled his features.
"Why you little-"
Before he could say anything else i connected my knee to his face, knocking his lights out. The loud thump of his body and most likely the commotion before that alerted the guard. He came rushing in with two others. They saw me standing over the unconscious doctor, with blood on my knee. I had knocked out one of the doctors teeth, where it was i don't know, but it didn't look good.
"Look the brat killed him!" one of the guards yelled.
The other pulled out a radio and called a code red. I knew what that meant and I didn't feel like having electric rods poking me. I quickly pushed passed the guards and ran out.
"Come back here you little brat!" one yelled.
I had spent my years here memorizing the building in which we were kept, we being the rest of the children here. I knew every nook and cranny of this place. Of course I was never allowed out of my cell, but my Soul could. I ran quickly through the hallways and hid in a vent in the left wing, the medical wing. I quickly replaced the vents cover and scooted back.
I learned long ago that I could actually separate my soul from my body and move around as I would if I were in my body. The only thing was no one could sense me. I became a phantom of sorts. Now I bet you're asking 'why don't i use this ability to escape?' Well, the answer to that is my Soul can only be out of my body for so long, and if i left my body behind it's not like i can take another. I don't know how i acquired these abilities. I can see, talk to, and interact with Demons and Angels, as i've done today. I can separate my Soul from my body and become a phantom. These things aren't normal in a thirteen year old girl I know, but I don't know what I am.
I heard footsteps pass by the vent where i was hiding one set of footsteps stopped in front of the vent. A guard Knelt down and tapped the vents cover, it fell off with a loud clang. I was too far back for him to see me, but i knew i had been found.
"Come out Sylvia. Dont make this harder than it needs to be." the guard said.
From where i was i could see him but he couldn't see me. He had chesnut brown hair and green eyes. Unlike my black hair and blue eyes. To say he was handsome was an understatement because he was very good looking. He was tanned and muscular. Unlike my pale skin and scrawny body.
I crawled out a little bit but not to far.
"Why should I listen to you?" I asked.
"You don't have to but it would be in your interest if you did." He said.
I scoffed. Yeah like all the drugs they put me on we're for my interest. Don't pee in my ear and tell my its hot rain! Yeah life here at Saint Mary's was a real treat. I heard footsteps that didn't belong to any of the guards. Unless the guards wore high heels.
"Hello officer." A perky voice said, "what's going on?"
"One of the children got out and is hiding in the vents." The guard said.
"Who?"
"Sylvia Easom."
There was a long silence. The guard stood from his crouched position in front of the vent and over to the side. The person I had heard before stood where the guard had stood and knelt down.
"Sylvia?"
As I heard the voice again I faintly recognized it. When I saw the face of who the voice belonged to I almost jumped for joy. It was my old nurse, Annabeth. Well she wasn't that old she was about in her mid twenties. She had curly red hair that went to her shoulders, pale skin, and brown eyes. She was the only person at this asylum that treated me like a human being. I hadn't seen her for a while.
"Annabeth.." I gasped creeping towards her.
She was smiling and held out her hand to me.
"It okay Sylvia, I won't let them hurt you." She said.
I came out of my vent and took her hand. When I got out all the guards had their gazers ready aimed at me. I frowned and hugged Annabeth's side.
"Put them down boys. They won't be needed."
One of them scoffed, earning a glare from Annabeth.
"I will escort her back to her cell. You are no longer needed." She said her voice held a venom I thought only the devil had.
All the guards backed away and resumed whatever jobs they had before my break down. Annabeth smiled down at me and walked me down the halls and to cell number 612.
A/N: Hey guys! Hope you liked my first chapter I will try to update everyday, but no promises. Thanks so much for reading!
