Emily lye in her bed in the dark. She looked at her clock, it was 1:35 am. She wasn't tired and she couldn't fall asleep. Emily didn't understand, she could usually fall asleep easy.. what was wrong? Was it something she ate? All she ate was macaroni and cheese. That's what she usually eats so that's not the cause of this. Maybe she needed some warm milk to make her sleepy.
Emily walked to the kitchen and got herself a glass of milk then popped it in the microwave for 1 minute. She sat down at the table to wait. Suddenly, only a few seconds later, the microwave beeped. She must have been daydreaming while it was warming up. When she went to get the milk out of the microwave, she burned her finger on the almost boiling milk. Maybe a minute was to long. She grabbed some oven mitts with one hand and put the other under cold water. She quickly grabbed the milk with the oven mitt turned off the water and almost threw the hot milk onto the table. It spilled a little onto the table. She sighed and rubbed her forehead.. she was stressed. Her mother was on her mind. Her mom died when she was just four. Just thinking about it made her big green eyes water. She grabbed a paper towel and wiped up the mess. She didn't drink the rest of her milk, she was too upset. She just sat there at the kitchen table and cried. She was twelve now, so her mom had died 8 years before. It was a long time ago, but it didn't feel like it. Emily was still heartbroken even after 8 years. All Emily really wanted was something to fill the gap in her heart. Something she's always wanted, a horse. She new she wasn't going to get a horse anytime soon, the nearest barn was at least about 5 hours away. She really, really wanted to at least visit her Aunt Taylor and Uncle Jeremy's farm, they had 28 horses. Well the last time she was there they did, but that was before her mom died. She really missed her aunt and uncle, they were the best ever, they didn't have kids so Emily always had all of the attention. Emily liked attention but she was shy.
Her school never had any sports or plays, it was a small school. The school colors were gray, light,light,light, blue and white. BORING! She didn't have very many friends there was only like 89 kids at her school in total.
