"Is she breathing?" The voice is clearly concerned, but at the same time it's relaxed. I try to move, but my body is too heavy. It stalls. "Oh, God! She's dead!"

"Calm down, idiot. She's sleeping." This voice is more frustrated than anything. It sighs and I can hear the crunching of leaves underneath feet. I'm outside. "She'll be fine."

"Fine? Fine? Look at her head! That doesn't look 'fine' to me."

"It's a nasty gash, but the bleeding has stopped."

Bleeding? Are they talking about me? I notice a sharp pain radiating around my left temple and immediately feel sick to my stomach. Something horrible has happened to me... But... What? What happened?

"What are we going to do? I mean, what if they somehow connect us to this-" the first voice wonders aloud, but he stops halfway through and it almost sounds like he's crying.

"Someone else will find her and she'll be their problem. There's nothing we can do for her. And they won't find anything. They can't."

"Can't?! But-"

"I said they can't!" It snaps. Silence.

I take the opportunity to try moving again. My finger. My toes. Even my eyes. But nothing works. I'm frozen. Why? What happened to me to make me this way?

"Brody?" The first voice whimpers. "It's cold... What if- what if she freezes out here?"

"Freezes?" He sounds as if he's never heard of such a thing before. And I notice, for the first time, that I'm undoubtedly cold.

"Can we take her with us? Please? I'll-I'll take care of her. I'll make sure she knows I'm the one who took her, not you. She won't go to the police. And when she wakes up, we'll explain the whole thing and go home."

"She's not a puppy." The second voice hissed.

"But-"

"No."

"I'm not leaving her."

"Is it because you think she's pretty? She could ruin us."

"Who would we be if we didn't help?"

Again, there was silence.

"This is a bad idea." The second voice finally stated. "But you're your own person. Hopefully, when she wakes up she'll remember what happened and leave. We'll keep her warm for the night."

"You won't regret it." The first voice stated firmly. "Maybe she's rich."
