The sounds of birds filled my ears as rolled on my side of the bed I slept upon. My right arm was covering my eyes so the bright morning light would shine and blind them. I could practically hear my brain screaming at me to get up and get ready for the regular day. Which would be my morning routine. It was simple, get up, brush teeth, get dressed, eat breakfast then head to school, go to work, lastly go home.

As much as I loved being a 18 year old senior in high school. I wanted more. I was stuck in the little town, you know the kind where everyone knows everyone and each other's business. I tell you, gossip spreads like wild fire here. It's annoying, I feel like i'm trapped. Not lost or unwanted;trapped. Even though I'm 18, I have to stay in town to help my father with his general store. My mother died when she gave birth to me, it was hard on my father but he never treated me wrong. He always took care of me, but he didn't teach me the skill I needed if I ever wanted to leave this 'hellhole'. Self-defense.

My father was too kind and gentle. Although when I was misbehaving, he did get me some smacks on my bottom but nothing to help me defend myself. Fortunately, our neighbours the Wilkinsons was a whole family of army men, marines, navy, etc. They moved in our town of Cauliflower Rose, about 3 years ago. I was about 15, that's when I was taught to defend myself. Every day, after school I went in their backyard and was taught to be a fighter. Now being a 15 year old girl that knew nothing about fighting. It was tough, every day was a challenged but i had to push myself to win and eventually I did.

Now i'm practically an adult, i'm not scared of the outside world than 15 year old me. It still doesn't excuse the fact that I want to explore out there and see who I really am. That's for another day. It's time to go back into the runt I made, and will probably never get out of.

"Y/n!!" I heard my father call for me as I stretch out of bed.

"Yeah dad?!" I yell back knowing he's at the bottom of the stairs waiting for me.

"Get ready for school honey! I also have some great news!"

I let out a smile, it was nice hearing my father's happy voice in the morning. It's soothing. I go over to my dresser and pick out a simple outfit to wear. A red tank top with jeans shorts that reach my knees. It's hot here in Cauliflower Rose, it's mostly because summer is just around the corner. Once i finish this senior year of high school, guess where I'm gonna be? Yep in the general store working with dad.

Grabbing a pair of converse, I put them on then rush downstairs to find my dad sitting at the kitchen table with the Daily Paper Rose in front of his face. I rolled my eyes. That paper has so much gossip it was like grease to a hamburger. The only thing I even like about that damn paper is that probably the little funny comics.

Clearing my throat as I sit across from my dad, I watch as the newspaper is folded and place on his right side of the table. I smiled seeing the full appearance of my dad. He was a tall fellow, bright eyes, dark hair. Loving smile, big heart. He was a keeper to any girl that wants a mellow guy. I always joke about him being a ladies' man but he always turns it down. He sees himself as the man that could never marry again. I push those thoughts away...having a stepmother? Please I'm not Cinderella. Correction, I'm not a princess. If anything I'm a warrior. No time for love in my life, well..not yet?

"Ahem.." Dad says amused with my thinking face clearly written on my face.

I felt my face flush as i messed with my h/c hair, I was so deep in thought. I had forgotten I was talking to my dad.

"Sorry Dad, go on"

"As I was saying, I'm hiring a new employee. He's gonna be with us for a little bit."

I blinked, usually Dad won't hire anyone but me. It's for safety reasons of our family (which is small) and the safety of the store.

"Why?" I instantly regretted that.

Instead of being upset, Dad chuckled seeming pleased with my answer.

"It's to give you a break, to go hang with your friends. Maybe go explore the world~" He winked on 'world'

If I wasn't smiling before, I am now. I was grinning ear to ear. He was really the best dad I could have. I jumped up giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

"Thanks dad!" He chuckled patting my shoulder.

"Come by the store. I want you to show him the ropes."

"No problem." I said grabbing my backpack from under the table.

After saying the goodbyes to my dad. I began to walk to school. It was only about 15 minute walk, school starts at 8:52. It was now 7:34. As I walked, I saw someone I had never seen before in this whole town. A boy but he was different. He was standing against a tree looking down at the grass seemingly in deep thought. I couldn't help but stare. Not that it's a crush but he is a very attractive boy. More than the boys in this town (no offense to them).

He had brown shaggy hair that seem to be soft and fluffy. It was shaping his face. Even though he was looking down, I can see her had the greenest eyes. I never seen green eyes that bright. Even in pictures. He seemed to have an outline of dimples. His height was about 5'9'. I think he's about 16? Maybe 17? He was wearing all green. It was like a tunic, something like what Link wear in that game series; Legend of Zelda. Like I said, never saw him in my whole entire life.

I must have stopped walking because his emerald eyes locked into mine and I ran for it. I'm not sure why I ran but there was a bad feeling in my stomach. The last I remember seeing of him before I ran into my high school was that he had an evil smirk, his one eyebrow was raised in a pleasing look. He looked dark...evil. He didn't look like he belong in this world. I didn't care. I prayed to God that I wouldn't have to see him again.

There's something about him that seems so wrong..
