The Night Terrors.
By Valiant Dorian
I lay awake,
After the night terrors desist,
I choke for breath, begging for mercy,
And their relent is their quarter.
I lay awake,
Grappling onto blue sheets,
Hoping for dreamless peace,
But peace in the night is scarce.
My breathing steadies,
Eyes darting the dark space,
Closed, small, scary,
The demons are at bay.
I seek relief,
From the ghost beside me,
Her faded limbs wrapped round my neck,
Her lips press forgotten kisses to my face.
She slithers into my embrace,
Fingers caressing the wounds upon my skin,
Kind words spill from her lips,
Soothing the stormy waves of my soul.
Just as her faded whispers reach my ears,
My love vanishes ... my arms empty,
The cold air settles on my scarred flesh,
And the pain and lonesome returns.
A heaviness dulls my sight,
The orbs in my skull flare,
Across the room clawing tendrils beckon,
I know it's time to succumb.
I draw my breath,
Saying one last prayer,
For a dreamless slumber,
I brace myself as darkness swallows me again.
