Kateline's P. O. V.
I awoke in my bedroom in the medium-sized apartment I live in with my big sister Madeline and my abusive father, but I loved to call her Maddie. It was the name Mother gave her before Father killed her. He made us run away to this stupid place, Japan. Honestly, my sister and Father loved it, but I hated having to break up with my boyfriend, Justin and all my best friends. My father was only abusive when he was drunk which was nearly every other day. Guess what? Today was one of his drinking days. So, Maddie and I agreed last night to go to school early. So, I tip tied to Maddie's room and woke her up, silently. I went back to my room and went through my closet. Luckily, I convinced the chairman to let me out of the yellow balloon dress. So, I pulled on a pair of black jeans with a red studded belt, hanging loose to the side and a black shirt with a black jacket with my hair down and pulled the hood on. I pulled on my red and black sneakers and grabbed my red and black checkered side purse. I slowly walked downstairs and Maddie had on jeans, a sweater and a side purse. We each made a microwaveable breakfast sandwich and sped out the door when we heard our father in the bathroom.
"Let's go." Maddie whispered and we sped out of the door and closed it without a peep. We ran outside and sat on the porch of our house.
"Let's see what's on today's schedule." Maddie said, pulling out her phone.
"It's the same old stuff we do every other day." I muttered. "Run away from Father until tomorrow morning when he's sober and we're able to go home."
"It's okay, Katy. We both know Father didn't mean it." Maddie said, rubbing my shoulder
I had a cut from my shoulder to my leg because my idiotic father. He had broken a bottle and sliced my shoulder and down.
"Hello, girls!" The girl's neighbor, Mrs. Jones said.
"Hello, Mrs. Jones!" Maddie yelled. I said nothing. I didn't like Mr. Jones, the married couple was 25 and 26 and I could tell that Mr. Jones desires my looks and attitude.
"Avoiding your Father until tomorrow morning again?" Mrs. Jones asked.
"Yes, we are." I muttered.
"Well, come over here and we'll make you some breakfast." Mrs. Jones said, cheerfully. Maddie and I walked over and saw Mr. Jones inside, eating.
"I have to run to the grocery store really quick." Mrs. Jones said.
"May I come with?" Maddie asked.
"Of course. Kateline, would you like to come with?" Mrs. Jones asked.
"No, ma'am. I must make sure my homework is correct and finished for school." I replied.
"Okay, we'll be back in an hour or so." Mrs. Jones replied.
"Take your time. We still have plenty of time before school starts." I said. They smiled and walked out. I took out my headphones and put them on, putting the music on blast so I could drown out Mr. Jones. I could feel his stares, but ignored them. I did my homework and was soon caught up in my fav song, 'Bad Blood'
"Cause baby, now we got bad blood and we used to have mad love. Now, take a look at what you've done. Cause baby, we've got bad blood." I sang. "Did you think it'd be fine? Still got scars from the back of your knife. So, don't think it's in the past, once all shiny, now it's all rusted."
Mr. Jones stood from the table and made his way towards me. He knocked my math homework which was already finished and stapled out of my hands and one else in front of me on the couch.
"I've noticed that you've been finished with your homework for at least twenty minutes now. Those two won't be back for at least two hours and that gives me plenty of time." Mr. Jones whispered, with his deep voice. I pushed past him and stood up and picked up my homework and put it in my purse. I sat outside when Maddie and Mrs. Jones came back.
