Y/n's pov:
(8th grade, age 14.)
"Y/n! Are you ready for you're first day at your new middle school?" my dad calls to me from the kitchen.
"Yeah! I'll be right there dad." I lie to him. I'm not ready, emotionally at least.
It's been a year since mom left, and we moved away from my home town to Columbus, Ohio. It's been total hell, and I don't have high hopes for today either.
I finish getting ready, I'm in my usual walking funeral aesthetic. I grab my backpack and then walk out to the bus stop. Today was gonna be a long day.
*timeskip to lunchtime*
I knew no one, but everyone else knew each other. Every single seat was taken, except one table. A lonely looking boy sat there.
"Can I sit here?" I ask him.
"O-oh? Y-yeah, I mean!" he stutters out.
I sit across from him and introduce myself. "Hi, I'm Y/n.."
"My name's Josh." he smiles at me. "I don't believe I've seen you around before though?"
"I just moved here..." I replied in a bitter tone.
"Don't worry, it's a really nice town. I'm sure you'll make lots of friends!" he tries to comfort me.
"What about you then? You seem like a great guy but you were by yourself." I'm pretty curious now.
"I'm just bad... at talking to people at first that is." he blushes a bit.
I look directly into his dark brown eyes and say "Then we'll make friends together. You're gonna be my guide around this town now, you have no choice."
He smiles and says "That sounds fun, I'll gladly be your guide."
Suddenly a blonde haired girl with green eyes came over and said "Oh, looks like the anxious mess FINALLY met someone that can put up with him." which causes a group of jocks and cheerleaders to laugh.
Josh looks down but I stand up "So? Maybe he is a little shy? That just means that he won't let bitches like you into his life." I spit out at her.
"Honey, trust me, he isn't a little shy. He's a train wreck." she puts her arm around me and says "Come on, you can sit with us."
I take her arm off of me "I want to sit with Josh.". I sit back down, this time next to him. She just scoffs and leaves.
"Thank you... We just met but you stood up to the most popular girl in school for me anyway." he smiles gratefully at me.
"Hey, I can't lose a perfectly good guide." I tease
"Seriously though, people like her disgust me." I add.
The bell rings, signalling that lunch is done.
"Meet me after school!" he calls out.
Looks like this town isn't so bad after all.
