I screamed the loudest most gut wrenching scream I could muster falling to my knees, my hands dropping my guns. It wasn't like I was trying to scream, it just happened out of, perhaps, instinct.
I was listening to unstoppable by the score beating my punching bag senseless when there was a knock on my apartment door. I sighed and paused my song, scouring my hands for the tail end of the tape as I walked to the door. I turned the knob and was face to face with a rather tall man wearing an eye patch who was accompanied by a shorter man with dirty blond hair. I brushed a strand of fiery red hair from my eyes and said,
"Hello."
The shorter man whispered something to the taller man and I saw a smile in his eyes, but his face remained blank. When no one answered my greeting I went to close my door on the strange men, but the black man with an eye patch stuck out his hand and stopped me from doing so. "Can I help you?" The taller man nodded and I gestured for him to come inside. He walked in with his tiny friend and I brought them to the kitchen and pulled up two chairs for them. Why did you let two strangers into your house dummy? The tall one answered my question for me when he spoke.
"I'm here because I've heard stories about you," he started folding his hands.
"Oh?"
"Yes. I've heard that you are different from most."
"How so?"
"You're very strong, highly trained in all forms of martial arts, deadly with a gun from over two hundred yards away, you're not in the government system, human lie detector, and you can hide in plain sight."
"And where did you get this information?" No one knew anything about me because I never looked the same when I went out, always wearing a wig or glasses, never giving away my real name.
"I've had my eye on you for over a year now."
"That's creepy. Is there a reason your here, because if so, I'd like to skip the stalker stuff and get to the point."
"I want you to become a part of the Avengers." I raised my eyebrows, leaning back in my chair.
"Why?"
"I think that you would be a very useful part of the team."
I thought for a long moment considering all the pros and cons. You could be an Avenger! It's not like you have anything better to do with your life so go ahead and do it. I slowly nodded my head.
"Alright." I nodded. The tall man stood up.
"Meet at the pier tonight, midnight, with everything you need to live," he said and walked out, the tinier of the two following behind him. As soon as I heard the door shut I grabbed my phone and checked the time. 6:37. I bounced on my feet as I thought of everything I needed, running into my room. I would shower after I packed.
I grabbed two bags to start with and filled the first one with toiletries and my pillows and blankets. I fit my deodorant, a pack of razors, two boxes of feminine products, toothbrush, toothpaste, mascara, eyeliner, hair ties, my black boxing tape, glasses and colored contacts case, my three blankets, and three pillows into one black bag. In the second I put clothing, bra's, underwear, t-shirts, sweatshirts, pants, shorts, socks, baseball caps and beanies, a few dresses, leggings, stockings, skirts, blouses, all that stuff, and made sure to put both my laptop and phone on their chargers before getting in the shower.
