The Fireflies dance

Sierra's POV

I sat in my room, alone. I couldn't go outside, I couldn't go downstairs, I couldn't go anywhere but stay in her room. It was curfew and anyone that snuck out was to be punished. No one knew what the punishment was, but no one wanted to find out.

I stared out at the moon, it was glowing brighter than usual. I watched the fireflies dance in the darkness. How much i wanted to go out to chase them.

Then... I spotted a... boy?

Yes! It was a boy! Outside, sneaking out his window. It was past curfew! He will be in so much trouble.

But for some reason... I wanted to join him. To laugh and play in the glistening darkness...

To dance with the fireflies...

To bathe in the moonlight...

To smell the beauteous flowers that only blossom in the glow of the moon.

Without thinking...

I opened the window.

I climbed out and landed in the bushes, only making the slightest of noises.

"Who goes there?" the boy asked. He store at the bushes.

I decided to come out.

What should I do? If he reports me I'll be punished! But then again... He's out here too...

"I'm sorry to disturb you, I couldn't help but come down" I said as I slowly came closer.

"Oh..." He looked away.

The fireflies started to glow. They circled us in glowing masses of light.

I looked in amazement only to bump into him. But neither of us moved.

The fireflies started to dance. They were all over the place, spinning and creating shapes of many kinds.

We just sat there, back to back, watching the fireflies fill the sky. 

We watched till morning. As the glittering specs disappeared into the broad daylight.

We started to do this every night. Night after night. He would go out, signal that I could come out and we would watch. The beauty never left, for each night was a new show of glistening golden orbs.

It was perfect. Magical even. Until...

One night...

...He didn't come.
