Hunting Grounds

"We can't go on like this, Sapphire." Several members of Sapphire's pack were howling at their female alpha to let them stop to rest. "No. We musn't rest yet. We need to hunt for our elders in the pack." Sapphire remarked. "Why can't they hunt for themselves?" said the smallest member of the pack, Leaf. "Who dare ask why the elders can't hunt." Leaf and his other pack members could tell by the shrill sound in her voice that she was kind of questioning it too. Leaf finally barked after a minute, "Me. I want to know." " "Well then Leaf, we hunt for them because they are to old and weak. And it is a part of the Wolf Code." Leaf didn't realize that much. "I guess you're right."He said small-like. "You guess. You guess! I'll have you guess something. Why do you think im alpha?" Sapphire stared at Leaf with a cold dead thought in her eyes. "Beacause you're the oldest female in our pack?" Leaf had finally choked out. "No. It is because even through the peril, sacrifice, losses and struggles, I have been strong watching over our pack and nurturing them." Sapphire left it at that as she leaped toward a nearby pond. As she landed a fish swam past. She leaned back and stalked for a second and sprang on the unsuspecting creature. "Gotcha!" Sapphire howled as she put a claw in it and then swiped. She continued up to 5 swipes and then finished it off with a 6th. ''Now nobody touch this fish! It's for the elders and pups in our pack." She gently laid the fish on a rock and let it warm. "Now, this should be enough to feed all four elders. Now we can hunt for ourselves." She looked at everyone for a heartbeat then she said, "Ok. I am going to group you guys in pairs. But you must help the other wolf hunt!" Then all the other wolves howled in agreement and waited to hear the pairs. "Now, ShadowClaw and BrownEyes our oldest un-eldered wolves you will hunt together." Then ShadowClaw howled. BrownEyes kept quiet. "Poicén and Thunder. Leaf and Shady. Morel and StarKite. And last but certainly not least, SharpTooth and I will hunt together. Now let's move."
