You and Ethan have been best friends ever since you met him on your first day of your freshman year in high school. You guys always hung out together and talked all the time. Your boyfriend Josh was okay with it because he knew that Ethan was just a friend. You, Ethan, and Josh, went to a summer camp just for the hell of it one year and you three were inseparable. One morning, Josh and Ethan came to pick you up from your cabin so y'all could walk to breakfast together. "Good morning beautiful" Josh said "yeah good morning beautiful" Ethan mocked jokingly "shut up Ethan" you replied along with a gentle shove. Ethan softly pushed you back but you tripped over your own feet but before you could fall Ethan grabbed your hand and pulled you away from the ground. "Gee thanks" you say rolling your eyes while smiling. You run and catch up with Josh and grab his hand while y'all wait in the breakfast line. Later that night Josh tells you to meet him by the old basketball court. Knowing that no one would be there, you went. When you arrived there you went to kiss Josh and he placed his hand on your arm and slightly pushed you back. "What's wrong" you asked "Y/N I can't do this anymore" he said sadly "you can't do what" you say confused "Us" he says as his eyes glisten with tears "what do you mean Josh? What'd I do?" You say scared "you don't love me like you love Ethan" he says as a tear drops down his cheek "Ethan? I.." You start to say but Josh cuts you off "You don't have to make excuses, I saw the way you looked at him earlier, I know you like him and I want you to be happy, even if that means breaking up" what Josh didn't know is that you have been thinking about breaking up with him because you secretly loved Ethan but you didn't want to hurt him. "I'm really sorry" you whisper to Josh "it's fine, bye Y/N" You start to quietly sob as you walk back to your cabin. The next morning Ethan meets you at your cabin door, "Where's your night in shining armor" he asked "he's not coming" you say "why not" Ethan asked confused "we broke up" you quietly murmur "did you just say you broke up?" Ethan asked shocked "yeah" you start to tear up "Y/N please don't cry" Ethan says compassionately as he opens his arms to hug you. You always loved his hugs because he's so big and strong. Y'all hugged for about 2 minutes, you wiped your eyes and then started walking to the cafeteria. "Can I ask you something" Ethan says shyly "of course" you say. "Why? Why did y'all break up? I thought y'all were happy" Ethan says "I don't want to talk about it" you reply "okay" Ethan says and y'all don't say another word about the break up until 2 nights later when you're sitting by the camp fire and Ethan comes to sit by you. "Hey" he says while smiling "hey" you say happily. "Y/N, can we talk about it now? You haven't been yourself since you and Josh called it quits and I think talking about it would help" "we just weren't meant to be. That's all" you quickly say "that's not all Y/N, why did y'all really break up" he says sternly "I have feelings for someone else and he could sense that so he said it'd be better if we didn't date anymore" you say sadly "are you serious? Why didn't you tell me? Who is it?" He says concerned "Ethan.. It's you.." you whisper he doesn't respond so you stand up and start to walk somewhere else when all of a sudden Ethan's strong hand grabs yours and pulls you close to him as his other hand wraps around your waist and the hand grabbing your hand moves to your face and he pulls you in and kisses you. After the kiss, you pull away stunned. "I.. I love you" he murmurs "I've loved you since the day I laid eyes on you" he says with more confidence. "I love you too" you say with a smirk. Ethan smiled and wrapped his arms around you and y'all sat in total silence and watched the fire until it burned out.
