"... Olivia," he said carefully, "I have some bad news. We got a report about a serious car crash involving Sammy and your mother." He waited, gauging her response. "I hate to say this, but... Olivia, they both died. I am so sorry for your loss."
Her name was Olivia Heart. She was a straight-A, never broke the rules kind of girl, and she didn't know what was going on. She had only one person left to talk to.
Her dad was never around (he had left them when she and her sister were a year old), her mom worked hard to make their lives as close to perfect as possible, and her sister, Sammy, would do anything she could to be the popular one of the family. At least, she did until Olivia's 18th birthday. On that day Olivia had decided to stay home while her mom and sister went shopping. But they never came home that night...
As 9 o'clock rolled around, she heard a knock at the door, and -- hoping that it was her longtime friend Jasper James -- she rushed to get it. She swung the door open and her face fell. Instead of Jasper, it was Officer Peters, one of the town's two best policeman. With a sad smile on his face, he asked if he could come in. Nervously, she lead him into the family room.
"S...so..." she stuttered, "what's the problem, Officer?"
Dead silence.
"... Olivia," he said carefully, "I have some bad news. We got a report about a serious car crash involving Sammy and your mother." He waited, gauging her response. "I hate to say this, but... Olivia, they both died. I am so sorry for your loss."
She was silent. 'Could this be a joke? There's no way that this is real, but why would he be here if it wasn't true?' she thought as she burst into tears.
The officer, having no clue how to comfort her, asked if there was anyone else they should call and inform of the loss. She was only able to respond by shaking her head 'no' and asking him if she could be alone. So he left, looking as horrible as she felt.
As soon as he was gone, she called Jasper. She didn't know how to say what happened, but she knew that all she had to do was call and he would be there, right by her side like always.
"Hello?" he said. "Olivia?"
She couldn't find the words to say it. It was as if she had forgotten how to talk -- all she could do was let out a small wine, then burst into tears again.
At once he knew that something was seriously wrong -- Olivia never cried. "I'm on my way! Give me five minutes." And he hung up.
She calmed down knowing that he was on his way. Everything was going to be okay.
Later that same week, after Olivia had finally been able to calm down enough to leave the house, Jasper convinced her to go for a walk to their secret meeting spot saying, "I have a surprise there for you."
When they got there they realized that they weren't alone. In front of them were two muscular guys, both with guns around their waists. They tried to quickly duck behind a bush, but it was already too late. They were spotted.
"Hehehe." They chuckled.
"Glad you could finally make it." sneered the first one, whose skin was tanned.
"Yea, you kept us waiting for so long." scoffed the other.
At this they grabbed Jasper and hit her over the head.
Just before she passed out she had one last thought. 'I may never see him again.'
