Color splashed to life inside of the boy's mind, purple and blue dancing behind his eyelids. Music had always made him feel different. It was a pleasant type of abnormal; a type that made him feel like he was out in space.
That boy's name was Patrick Stump. He was an aspiring musician and a decent artist, but he was- at most -an outcast. No one seemed to remember his name. He didn't mind, for it gave him a sense of purpose. He felt that he had to prove his worth to the world. Patrick possessed the ability to be something great, and he was aware of it too. But his dreams were destroyed once he graduated from high school. He could never afford college... not since his parents threw him out for being a "fag". Patrick instead decided to work full time at an art store that he never remembered the name of.
"Hurley's!" He shouted before grimacing, shrinking down and running towards the back room.
"You alright, little man?" His boss, Andrew Hurley, asked.
"You're only an inch taller than me..." Patrick pouted.
"Yeah but i'm older." He states bluntly.
The two never talked much. There really wasn't much to talk about between them. Patrick didn't particularly live an eventful life, and Andy preferred to stay silent about his. It was okay though, because the customers usually kept the two of them busy. When the store was run dry Andy told Patrick to lock up and took off, leaving the younger to his own devices. Usually, he would just lock up like Andy said, but today was different. Patrick got up from his spot in the corner and cleared his throat.
"I hope this is the last time 'cause i'd never say no to you ..."
He cringed at his own voice. It had been a while.
"this conversation's been dead on arrival."
The bell on the door rang, but Patrick didn't hear it. He kept singing.
"And there's no way to talk to you..."
The customer wandered towards the sound of the voice, listening silently.
"this conversation's been dead on-"
"You have a nice voice." The customer blurted, instantly regretting it when Patrick screamed and punched him.
