Caroline Vrite and The Enthusiastic Recruitment

Chapter one

It was a week before Caroline's 11th birthday. Her parents had been planning a huge surprise party, and all of their family members were invited, as Caroline has no friends.

It was an early morning, the sun had risen and beamed into Carolines room through the skylight. She slowly opened her eyes to discover her room was exactly as she had left it, a complete mess. She had three sweaters hanging on the back of her chair in front of her desk. Two journals sat upside down on the desk, and half of the pillows that were on her bed when she went to sleep were now on the floor. The only thing that was still organized was her bookshelf.

Caroline stretched and yawned, wishing her bed could make itself so she could go down the hall and get straight to eating. She didnt notice the owl sitting next to the skylight, she hardly noticed the letter that had been slipped under her door while she was sleeping. It was a hard envelope, written on the front in green ink was:

Ms. C. Vrite

Bedroom at the end of the hall

1311 Copper Lane

She flipped the envelope over, and broke the seal. She pulled out two pieces of parchment, and her eyes began reading, her mind not believing.

HOGWARTS SCHOOL of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY

Headmaster: Neville Longbottom

Dear Ms. Vrite,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all neccessary books and equipment.

Minerva McGonagall

Caroline reread the first page twice before she thought she understood what it was. She had two guesses: either she was in fact a witch and there was in fact a magical school called Hogwarts or her parents were playing some trick on her for her 11th birthday.

She turned to the second page and began devouring word after word.

2. One plain pointed hat (black) for day wear
3. One pair of protective gloves (dragon hide or similar)
