"It's 7:48, Amelia, you better hurry your ass up."
I struggle to pull my jeans over my thighs while at the same time, trying to put my hair into a ponytail. You probably already figured that this didn't work out.
"Shut the hell up." I yell back in a rather annoyed tone after finally conquering those two obviously difficult tasks.
When I walk into the living room, Niall is sat on the couch watching some sports match that he taped last night. He pauses it and turns the television off once he notices my presence.
"Better late than never, right?"
Niall rolls his eyes and gets up, grabbing the keys and a couple books.
I, Amelia G. Crawford am one of the most organized freaks one may ever meet. Messes make me panic and dirty dishes make me want to scream. But there is one thing that I have yet to master and that is the art of actually getting to places on time. For some reason I'm always late and I doubt that will ever change.
The heavy sounds of Manhattan traffic surround us as we get into the car.
"Fuck." I say. "I forgot a granola bar."
"Here. I expected this." He says smirking and handing me the bar.
"You know me so well." I sarcastically say back, annoyed by how he already knows how incapable I am of doing basic, responsible, adult things.
I lean my head back on the seat as something popular plays on the radio. I barely got a wink of sleep last night. I had to write a thirty page paper in the span of 7 days and I somehow managed to finish the rest of what I had left, last night.
"Can we stop at Starbucks?" I ask Niall, already knowing the answer.
"No, Lia" He replies keeping his eyes on the road. "we're already late, you butt head."
"Worth a shot." I shrug.
"Not really." He says back.
Niall and I have been best friends since the age of 11 and I don't think a day has gone by in all of these eight years where we haven't bickered. He moved next door to me after leaving Ireland because his mom got a job offer on New York. We were part of the same friend group forever until college rolled around and Niall and I continued to stick together.
I'm basically childish in his eyes. I like to have fun, he likes to study. Don't get me wrong, I focus on my uni work as well, but he never loosens up. He doesn't know what it means to have a little fun.
I've been planning on dragging him to some party that my friend Isabel is throwing tomorrow night. Holiday break is right around
the corner and I think he should get his mind off of his studies. For at least one night.
We arrive on campus and quickly make our way to class before it's actually too late.
I say goodbye to Niall and run to get to my law & business class.

I run a brush through my wet hair after getting out of a hot shower. Niall and I planned on having a relaxing night so we're gonna watch some movies and eat junk. I'm excited because it's not very often that we do this. This used to be a normal thing when we were younger (skipping out on the junk food at times.) but now we're constantly busy with school work and trying to earn some money.
I can hear the sound of popping kernels from my room.
"What movie are we watching, Lia?" Niall yells from the other room.
"The parent trap!" I reply and I just know he's rolling his eyes. He hates the movie because we used to watch it all the time, but he doesn't care so he puts up with it anyway.
I walk into the living room in my pajama shorts and an oversized hoodie. Netflix is already set up on the screen, so I grab the remote to search for our movie.
I hear Niall's footsteps coming, so I click on the play button after he sits down next to me.
"So Ni..."
"So Lia..."
"You know my friend Isabel, right?" I ask.
"Unfortunately." He says back.
I roll my eyes and chew on some popcorn.
"Well she's having a party tomorrow night and I think you should come.. to you know get your mind off things for a night."
"Ehhh..." He replies, keeping his eyes on the screen as the movie finally starts.
"Cmon Niall it will be fine I promise! I just want to have some fun with you!"
He looks over at me, smiling but rolling his eyes. "Fine but if I go, you're never aloud to bug me about parties again."
"Deal." I say even though that most likely won't happen.
