The bland, endless beeping of my alarm clock rang through my ears, rustling me awake. Ok thats not true, I was already awake. I was just lying there, still and silent, waiting for a reason to get out of bed, yet the only thing that came was the alarm.
I reached my arm out from underneath the covers and shut off my alarm, climbing out of bed. The cold room hit my bare arms like a ton a bricks, I quickly picked up an oversized sweatshirt and pulled it over my head. I rubbed my tired eyes, leaving my room and walking downstairs.
As soon as my feet hit the tile floor in the kitchen I was hit with a sympathetic "Hi Kenz." from my older sister Maddie. I brought my tired eyes up to her, as she was sitting at the counter in her dance wear. "How are you feeling today?" She asked kindly.
It was a fair question. Ever since my little 'incident' with Brynn, I hadn't been myself. I was quieter, and less social; I spent most of my time in my room, listening to old songs or reading somewhat sad books. My parents had decided that I was depressed and needed to see a specialist. Of course, they were oblivious to the real reason. They assumed that I was simply 'going through changes' and that this was just a phase.
I shrugged and leaned up against the counter. "Are you going to dance?" I asked gruffly, eyeing her dance wear. She looked shocked, and for good reason. This was the first multiple word sentence I had said to anyone in the past two weeks.
Maddie shook herself out of it. "Yeah. You wanna come? It might be good for you, even if you don't end up dancing at least you'll be getting out of the house."
"No thanks." I shook my head. I couldn't go, I just couldn't. Everything there reminded me of Brynn. After she and her mom stormed from the competition, they were never heard from again at the Aldc, at least according to my mom.
"Yeah, you should go. There's a new girl on the team about your age." My mom interjected, walking into the kitchen.
"But I don't really want to..."
"No excuses. Just come and say 'Hi' to the girls and Abby. You can watch in the viewing platform with me and if you're really miserable, I'll take you home."
I sighed but reluctantly shuffled upstairs to get dressed. Without careful consideration I put on a pair of black leggings and a black crop sweatshirt, before running downstairs and sliding my feet into my flip flops.
"Who knows, you might have fun." Maddie said as she opened the front door. "There's a new girl, about your age. Maybe you'll hit it off." I have to admit her words excited me. But I couldn't try talking to this girl. I was unnatural, I wouldn't want to make anyone uncomfortable like I did with Brynn.
This is short and shitty but oh well.
