I stared in the mirror as I picked at the rips in my jeans and messed with my curls. Today was the day I started school at Hogwarts, where my father formally attended.
My father knows I will be in Slytherin, but is still nervous over sending me there because people will know who I am related to and judge me. At Durmstrang, the headmaster was a Death Eater so no one questioned me being there, well other than me being the only female.
I am not much like my father other than my looks. We have the same dark eyes and dark hair, also bone structure in our faces. I look a lot like my father, but we don't share the same wishes for my future.
"Come on love! Breakfast is ready!" "Coming father!" I ran down the stairs after sticking my wand in my boot.
I was wearing Black ripped skinny jeans with black boots and a white button up shirt with my sleeves rolled up.
"Good morning dear. Sleep well?" "Yes father." I said as I bid him good morning.
We sat at the very large table as we ate in silence, once we were finished the house elves started to clean up so we moved to the living room of the mansion where many of the Death Eaters sat.
"Who is going to take me to the train station dad?" I asked as I sat next to him on the couch, "Avery will as usual dear. Now listen I want you to write me and tell me how everything is going. You know I have eyes in the castle, don't make me use them on you."
I rolled my eyes, "Don't worry dad. I will write." " Good. Do you have your ring?" I looked down at my right hand where my family ring was on my middle finger. "Of course father." "Well its time to go dear."
He stood and pulled me into a tight hug, "Please be careful Rosie." he whispered in my ear, "I will daddy. I love you." "I love you too." He pulled away from the hug and kissed my head.
"Avery. Be sure she gets their safely and on time." "Of course Master."
I stood next to Avery who gave me my bag as he had my trunk, I grabbed his arm and we apparated outside the station. The train left in 30 minutes. We quickly walked to platforms 9 and 10 and ran into the magical barrier.
"Alright sweetheart, Have fun and be careful." "I will bye Avery!" I ran onto the train and found a compartment to sit in by myself.
As the train started moving four rowdy boys made their way into my compartment. "Who are you? This is our compartment." One boy said. He was rather attractive and had glasses on.
"My apologies, I am a transfer student I didn't know this was your compartment." I said as I stood to leave, "No no its okay. I'm Remus Lupin." Another boy said, "Peter Pettigrew." "James Potter." "And I am Sirius Black, what is your name beautiful?"
"Rosaline, Rosaline Riddle." They all sat down and I ended up between Sirius and James. "Where are you transferring from?" Remus asked, "Durmstrang."
"I thought only boys were allowed to attend Durmstrang?" James asked. Before I could answer a pretty girl with red hair came into the compartment.
"Hello Lily Flower, Go on a date with me?" James asked looking at the girl, whom I presumed was Lily. "Not in a million years Potter. I am actually here for her." "Me?" I asked, "Yes. Well actually some boys from Slytherin are looking for you and found out you were with these boys and asked me to come get you."
"What boys?" I asked, fearing I already knew the answer, "Slytherin prefect Lucious Malfoy." She said as if his name feared her. "Oh alright well-"
"What does Malfoy want with her?" Sirius asked, blocking my exit. "I didn't ask Black. Severus just asked me to come get her for him." "Sit down Padfoot, let her go." Remus said as he tried to push Sirius down.
"No. Why does Malfoy want you?" Sirius asked turning to me, "His father is good friends with my father and I believe he is supposed to escort me to the headmasters office to be sorted." I replied.
"So you're going to be a Slytherin?" James asked, "Most likely, though I do wish I wasn't. But my father was a Slytherin, and my mother so I understand if you do not wish to talk to me ever again." I started to walk out the door when a hand grabbed my arm.
"We aren't going to stop being your friend because you're a Slytherin, you seem like a good enough person." James said, "Thank you James."
He let my arm go and I followed Lily out of the compartment, "I am sorry for not introducing myself, I'm Lily Evans." "Nice to meet you Lily, I'm Rosline Riddle." She paused for a moment before walking to another compartment, "Well here you are. Goodbye."
She walked off quickly and I entered the compartment. "Lucius Malfoy, it's been awhile." "Yes it has, Princess." He said as he bowed to me. "Lucius, my father is not around there is no need for such formalities at school." I said as I pulled him into a hug.
He hugged me back and we sat down and I noticed the other people in the compartment. "Im sure you know the Black family, Regulus, Narcissia, and Bellatrix." Lucius said to me, "Yes, I do. But do they know me?" I asked looking at Bellatrix.
"I for one do not know you, but whoever you are isnt important." Bellatrix said looking down at me. "Rosaline. Rosaline Riddle." I smirked at the look on her face. "Riddle? As in-" "Yes Bella, Rosaline here is the daughter of The Dark Lord." Lucius said to her.
We soon arrived at the castle and Lucius escorted me into a carriage with them and then into the castle where we met Professor Slughorn. "Rosaline, this is Professor Slughorn. He's head of the Slytherin House." Lucius said as I shook Slughorns hand, "Hello Professor." "Hello dear, follow me and I will be taking you to Professor Dumbledore."
I followed him to a statue and he mumbled something that sounded like Lemon Drops and the statue started moving into a stair case. "In you go dear, all the way to the top." I smiled politely and stood on the stairs as they moved upward.
Once I made it to the top I knocked and the door opened, I entered and saw the headmaster sitting at his desk. "Hello Miss Riddle." "Hello Headmaster." I took a seat in front of his desk as he stood and grabbed the sorting hat.
"Lets get right to business, shall we?" "Of course, sir." He sat the sorting hat on my head and I heard its voice in my head.
"Ah Rosaline Riddle, I once sorted your father and mother. Yes Yes. Very cunning, much like your father, but you are so different and kind. Brave, very brave. You would do well in Gryffindor, yes. Smart, but no not Ravenclaw and certainly not Hufflepuff. A very tight race between Slytherin and Gryffindor, yes."
"My father will be disappointed if I am not a Slytherin." I thought to the hat, "Yes but ooh.."
It was quiet for a moment before the hat spoke very loudly, "I cannot sort her. She falls perfectly between a Slytherin and a Gryffindor. Sorting her is simply impossible."
"Well what do we do now Professor?" I asked as I removed the hat from my head, "I see no other choice but to place you in both houses temporarily" He said as he sat back down, "But Sir, is that even possible?" I asked.
""It has never been done before but I do believe that I can make it work. You will have your own room on the seventh floor, the Room of Requirement. You may play Quidditch for whichever house team you are able to make it on and you will have classes with both classes. I will have the teachers decide in a few months time which house they see you belonging with."
"And dinner?" I asked, I was very hungry by now it was around 7 pm. "You may sit wherever. I know you have some friends in both houses." He said as he stood and walked towards the door.
