Chapter 1
There are some people in the world who go through their lives exploring, and living, while others sit at a desk, typing away the small life they were given. Others struggle to get through the day, having to find water, food, and shelter, simply surviving, and others have the luxury to be able to get others to do such things for them, as they find such tasks trivial. Everyone has different lives, and lives them differently.
Then there is my life. Simple, boring, yet difficult. Each day is either easy, or like walking through tar. Hard, unforgiving, and pushing you back.
My alarm went off, blaring in my ear, telling me to get up. I pushed my eyes open, and forced myself to sit up. I gently pushed the button on the alarm, effectively silencing it.
I sighed, and looked out the window. Today looked like it was going to be a nice day. I felt hope at the thought of having a good day, and smiled. All that was easily shattered when my mothers voice burst into my room for downstairs.
"Lyn! Get down here, breakfast in ready and you're holding me up!"
I grunted from the rising irritation of her yelling like that so early in the morning. I soundlessly got out of bed, and stumbled downstairs, still half asleep.
"Finally," my mother grumbled.
I took a deep breath to calm my nerves, and sat down at the table, looking at the hastily made pancakes.
"Where is dad?" I asked, slightly curious.
"At work already. I need you to clean and do all your chores today before we get home. You know how your father is if the house isn't clean." She stated, in a somewhat threatening tone.
By 'chores' she meant clean the whole house, do the dishes, laundry, basically all the housework. I sighed. Both her and my father are pretty strict, not letting me do much, and making me do everything they could get away with. They are always at work, or at home yelling at me if I forget to do a chore, or even if they are in a bad mood.
After finishing, I got up, and went upstairs to change, shower and get ready for school. Once I got back downstairs, I noticed my mother was gone. I went out the door, locking it behind me. I walked down the street, toward my nephew, Seth's house.
As I approached, I heard yelling, and the sound of something breaking. This was normal. My much older sisters were even worse than my parents, always rude to Seth, yelling at him, and just being bullies. We didn't get along either. I ran toward the house and burst through the door. Everyone paused. I ran over to Seth, grabbed him and his bag, and we ran out the door and down the street.
"God, I thought they would never let me leave!" stated Seth, with a slight smile on his face. I could see that what happened troubled him a bit, though.
"what was up their ass this time?" I asked, curious and concerned, trying to cheer him up.
" I forgot to wash the floors, then talked back to them." He said, with a slight smirk on his face. He was pretty proud, as it took guts to talk back to those people.
I smiled, and gave him a high five.
"Bet their panties are in a bunch, huh?" I joked, giving him a slight elbow.
"Ohh yeah. That felt great though!" he said, excitement clear in his features, proud of his small accomplishment.
"Once I get a car, we are leaving this place. For good." I said. He smiled at that. He is turning 13 soon about a month from now, In grade 8, kinda small at 5'1, and shy, but a huge heart, and mature for his age. He had messy reddish hair, and dark hazel eyes, reminding me of the forest. I had dark brown, long hair, and similar hazel eyes as his, but with light and dark blue streaking through them. I'm also in grade 10. I'm kinda short, standing at 5'4 and a half, but I could still easily hold my own in a fight. I was kinda skinny, but not overly so, slightly muscular, with average size everything pretty much.
We were walking to school, just messing around and talking. We reached his elementary school. I glanced at him. He looked nervous.
"Hey, its gunna be alright. If those boys bother you, remember what I taught you, but only go for it if he throws the first punch, alright?" I said reassuringly.
After that, I engulfed him in a hug, one he gladly returned. I let go after a few moments, and ruffled his hair. He looked much better, albeit a little worried. I smiled and waved, and headed off to my own school.
Kids at his school we unforgiving little brats, always picking on the target they thought was best. And that happened to be my nephew.
I arrived at school, instantly finding my best friend, Nicole. She was taller than me at 5'6, really sweet, with brownish blondish hair and blue eyes, and much more popular than I was. Kids here tended to avoid me, mainly because of my weirdly coloured eyes, and the ever so slight, I guess glow about them, and my odd features. My face wasn't too angular, but really defined, if that makes sense, and you don't see eyes, or faces like that around here ever. I was weird, and people avoided me. Except for Nicole.
"Hey! How's it goin?" she asked, while giving me a big hug.
"Eh, fine I guess. My mom, and my sister were both in terrible moods this morning. Not too new, since they always have their heads up their asses." I joked.
She giggled, and we walked toward the school, while chatting.
"Hey, wanna come over after school? Seth wants to come hang out with Jamie, so you better come too." I pondered the idea, since I had chores. I grinned mischievously. Screw chores, lets piss them off a bit. Yet little did I realize how much I would regret that decision later.
"Sure! How about I let them do the chores for once." I stated, just as the bell rang.
"See you after school!" I yelled while leaving to my first class of the day.
