My tired eyes slowly began to open to luminous light flooding into my room.
"Mija wake up!" I heard my mom yell from downstairs. I gently pushed myself up to rest my head on the bed frame. A smile began to form on my face realizing it was the first day of school. I grabbed my phone from the nightstand to see it overflowing with notifications about my mother's business.
Phoenix business booming!
Sylvana sending her daughter to Phoenix Drop High?
My smile got brighter at the thought of going to high school. Then I read a notification that made my heart stop.
Mr. Ro'meave sending his sons to Phoenix Drop High?!
I practically jumped out of bed, my feet accidentally smashing one of the boxes I hadn't unpacked yet.
"Mom!" I yelled walking down the stairs, my long black hair flowing behind me.
She had her hands covering her face and her elbows on the glass table.
"What's wrong?" I asked sympathetically.
"Nothing sweetie, just some business stuff." Her eyes looked tired and her hair looked like it haven't been washed in days.
"Mom, you need sleep and-"
"I'm fine, breakfast is on the table." She muttered grabbing a folder and walking up the stairs. I never got to ask her about the Ro'meave brothers going to the same school I was going to. They were my mother's business enemies, and I didn't even know their names. I slowly began to eat my cereal, then I looked at the time. Crap! I had five minutes and I wasn't even dressed. I left my cereal bowl at the table and darted up the stairs. I quickly put my uniform on, grabbed my bag, and ran out the door. Luckily the school wasn't very hard to find, it was only a few blocks from my house. I made it into class just in time.
"Well it seems like we have a new student, don't worry you didn't keep us waiting," the teacher said with smirk. The entire class laughed at me except one boy who's mind was somewhere else.
"Well introduce yourself and then take a seat." The teacher said not even looking at me. I had already gotten off to a great start, but at least no one knew who I was. My mom had kept me a secret from the world. She homeschooled me my whole life until this year, so no one knew what I looked like. As long as no one found out my last name I was fine.
"I'm Aphmau! I love animals, purple, and video games." I smiled brightly at the class. Then, as instructed, I took a seat next to a guy with white hair, who immediately turned to me.
"H-Hi I'm T-Travis," the nervous boy said.
"I'm Aphmau, I already said that though," I replied giggling.
About an hour later...
"I hope to see you around Aphmau!" Travis said walking down the hall.
"Hope to see-"
"Hi! You look really familiar!" A girl with bright pink hair said jumping in front me.
"Maybe we've seen each other before?" I suggested nervous she might know who I was.
"Maybe! Well Kawaii~Chan's gotta go! See you around Aphmau~Senpai!"
"Senpai?" I asked but she was already gone. Before turning to my next class, I saw a strange blond boy staring at me, but he quickly turned away.
