Before I was even able to tell exactly what was going on in the world, I was forced into a small room with white walls, and blinding fluorescent lights. They would run tests on me, every day for about a month, until they decided to throw me into a larger, dark, empty void of a room. There were other people there, though it still felt incredibly lonely. As if you had been chained there, and were not permitted to leave. I'm here to act as some guinea pig for some cure they're developing.
They have given me a name, that I refuse to be called by. "Number 34" I am not a number, and I'm not going to stand being called a number. My name is Aislinn Cahil.. My family is heavily made up of an Irish side from both my father and mother, though my mother was born in California.. I forget which town it was, exactly. I was also born in America.. Providence, Rhode Island.. And raised up until about 5 years ago in a small, cozy home, which always seemed to be filled with warmth, no matter what season, or temperature outside. My mother unfortunately caught this unnamed, but well known disease, which had been discovered only a few years back. Unfortunately, no cure has been discovered yet. She died in the car on the way to the hospital when she complained of an extreme pain in her chest, stomach, and abdominal areas. I haven't gotten the disease, yet, and I'm grateful I haven't.. But I sometimes wish I did. So that my father wouldn't have had to give me to a place where the barricade you from the world. .. Let's just be clear here.
I want to die.

I heard a soft shuffle type noise from beside me, noticing a man.. I beleive.. He could possibly be a teenage boy, but it's next to impossible to tell in this darkness. I reached forward and tapped him on the shoulder, the locket on my necklace dangled forward. He flinched a small bit, but relaxed.
"Need something?" He asked, by the sound of his voice, he seemed to be about 17 or 18 years old.. Only a year, or two older than I am. It was soft, though firm, the type of voice you'd expect the protagonist of a show to have.
"I was just curious... About this place. Can you help me?" He nodded in response. I still haven't really seen his face, just his nearly white, wavy hair, and baggy shirt. He also wore long, slightly torn jeans, and sneakers without shoelaces.
"What do you want to know?" He asked, looking up at me. I still couldn't see his eye color, in fact I could barely see his face from where I was.
"I guess.. Everything, really. Why are we here? Why are we given numbers as names? And... Why are we kept in small living spaces for so long, and just thrown into this large room?"
He cleared his throat and sat up. "We are here, because this is one of the few safe places to be at the moment.. Or so they say. We are given numbers as names, because they're too awful at keeping track of our actual names, and we are transferred into a larger room, with people to prevent us from committing suicide, as they plan to have most of us .. Eh.. Repopulate once it's safe to do so." He responded, then looked away, I could see a small, and strange smile creep onto his face. "The world is so wonderful, isn't it? Always trying to kill off the race that tries so hard to keep it alive..." He looked down, and I could only imagine the serious expression that formed on his face. "... Though I guess we destroy it more than we protect it.."
I blinked and looked away. "Hmm.. I guess so." I looked at the empty void of a ceiling. "Maybe we're like... The chosen ones... And they are just killing off all the people who have done wrong in this world." I responded. Leaning my head against the wall which I was sitting with my back to.
The boy released a dark chuckle, then released a sigh. "We can only hope.." He replied.
---
I was woken by a bright light flashing in my face. ".. Eh?" I look up at the woman who was doing it. She had brown hair, with a side-Shave hairstyle, a narrow face, and bright green eyes. She was also wearing some sort of uniform..
"Ah, great, she's responsive." She said with a happy-ish tone. " I just need to run a few tests on you to make sure you're okay, and that everything is functioning as it should."
She did the tests, and found nothing wrong, but just as she was about to leave she turned around and looked at me for a moment, a serious expression on her face. She suddenly snatched the locket and necklace off of my neck.
"Hey! Give it back! Please at least just the locket!" I screamed, getting up and walking toward her, I felt a hand push against my chest, and send me flying backwards. My head banged against the hard stone wall. When I looked back up, I felt dizzy for a moment, and realized the woman had already left. I flinched violently when I felt something tap on my shoulder. I whipped around to look at the boy as he held out something to me. I looked at his hand, taking a moment to focus on what he was holding. I noticed the little golden heart in his palm, and looked up at his face.
"I'm guessing this belongs you?" He asked, giving a little half-smile. I reached forward, and hesitantly took it, then looked back at him, trying to get a good look at his face. He noticed this, and quickly backed off, and looked away. I was a bit confused as to why he would do this, but ignored it, and sat back against the wall. I looked down at the little heart in my palm.
"Do you know why she took the chain away..?" I asked, and looked back up at him. He looked back at me, then huffed, and awkwardly scooted over a bit. I looked at him, noticing his serious expression. He had a bandage over one of his eyes, and a soft greyish green eye color. His hair also seemed rather messy, but I could guess it was from being stuck in the room.
"They're trying to limit the ways a person could kill themselves here.. There are quite a bit.. and they're pretty painful." He replied, seriously, then looked away again. I looked at him with a curious expression. He looked around a bit, and just as I was about to speak, he looked at me with a grin.
" You wanna get out of here..?"
