''Your Majesty, the queen is ill and is calling for you.''said the queen's chamber maid as she burst into the throne room.My father the pharaoh was speaking to thr royal vizier as he heard the news.I was watching closely the way my father reacted. He looked a little relieved and he had this unusual look on his face as this statement had a double meaning to him.
''I will see her at once,''he said as he exited the room.Seshi, my father's vizier looked confused as he watched the pharaoh leave.Something was suspicious. What was wrong with the queen? And why was my father concerned? For the past few moths he was ignoring her and now he was concerned.I glanced around the room.It was almost empty. The only people there was the vizier, his servants and my maid Nefi.
''Your Highness,I will take my leave since your father is busy,''said Seshi as he walked towards the exit.I looked at him for a long while.Something was wrong. His servants followed quickly behind as if he didn't want want to speak to me.
''My lord,My father may be busy but surely you can tell me of the important matters you need to discuss.I will be very happy to help in any way I can.''I said.He turned around relunctantly and grimaced as if he didn't want to speak to me.Why was he acting this way?He had always made sure that I was informed about important issues concerning Egypt.I was its princess and one day I will be its Pharaoh.
''Your Highness, your father would prefer it if I discussed this matter with him rather than you.''He said boldly as if to flaunt his status and making me me feel as if I was unworthy to hear this news.I might be a girl but one day I will be queen.I watched as he left the room leaving me stunned. It was as if he didn't want me to rule anymore.Of all my father lords and viziers Seshi was the most eager to have me sitting on the the throne. Why the sudden harshness?
I turned towarsd my maid Nefi and gestured for her to approach me.''I want you to find out what's happen with the queen.''I whispered in her ear and watched as she scurred out the room.I had always disliked Queen Nefertari since I was little. She was always mean and cruel and she had an ego the size of a pyramid. The feeling was always mutual as well, she never liked me since she became queen many years ago.I was always a constant reminder of my mother and she hated her.Since my mother was chosen to be Queen of Egypt before her. When she finally died Nefetari was finally made queen but she always resented me.
I knew something was wrong months ago.My father wasn't acting like himself. He became more distant from me and started visiting Nefetari more.I had placed spies in her quarters and all they would report was that she was very sick with the fever and she was feeling more fatigue.I had even met with the royal physicians but they weren't telling me anything either.I sighed as I looked around the room.I often played here as a child when my father was discussing matters of state with his lords. He had wanted me to learn the art of politics and as soon as I could talk he had asked for my opinions and council.
I was his only surviving child. My mother had borne four children in her lifetime.Three sons and a daughter. My eldest brother died a week after he was born and my other brothers died in childbirth.I was the last and only surviving child of my mother.A year after I was born she killed herself because she had found out that she couldn't have anymore children. My father was devastated or so I heard. He began to raise me as his heir and he did everything he could to make me happy until five years after the death of my mother he remarried.
I walked towards the throne infront of me it was beautiful. It was pure gold and it was surrounded with ancient writings and carvings. One day I would sit on that throne as the Pharaoh of Egypt and become the first female ruler of my country.I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I hadn't noticed when my maid Nefi walked in.
''Your Highness,I found out what's happened with the queen. She is with child.''
