The morning sun roes high above the mountains' peak, beaming down it's warm comforting touch as she lay awakening from a seemingly endless sleep. Essie opened her eyes to the sight of a blinding light. Though it didn't take long for her weary eyes to adjust, she started to make out a person looking down at her. Jolting up, she found herself in a prairie of long golden grass stretching farther than the eye could see. Her eyes narrowed as they followed a man-like silhouette standing in front of her.

The sun was too bright for her eyes to adjust quick enough to her surroundings, so she rubbed them and looked a second time. What stood in front of her was no man she had ever seen before. He was a tall, angelic man with a certain glow about him. Perhaps it was the way his eyes shimmered, or the dimples that magically appeared when he smiled. Or maybe it was how his hair blew so perfectly in the wind. Whatever it was, Essie couldn't help but to notice it.

"Take my hand." he said reaching for hers.

Essie sat watching his hand wait patiently as she thought for a moment. So many questions danced in her head. Yet none could reach her mouth. Her hand gradually fell into his and she was gently brought to her feet. Even as they stood gazing eye to eye, Essie was speechless. But before anything could be said, her eyes suddenly fell on something alarming. Wings. Long, beautiful, white wings branched from his back, shimmering stunningly in the sunlight.

This must be a dream, she thought to herself. But if not a dream, could it be that she was really seeing an angel before her? If so, she would have to come to the realization she has died. And dying wasn't something Essie remembered happening.

"My name is Galen," the angel said. "Who might you be?"

Essie thought for a moment, struggling hard to remember who she was. It took some effort but she could finally recall her name.

"I'm Essie."

"Essie. That's a very pretty name. It's a pleasure, Essie." He smiled.

Her eyes followed up and down his body. She couldn't help but to notice how handsome he was. His hair was rather long and wavy, light brown with blonde highlights. If she had to guess his age, she would've estimated between late twenties and early thirties. Though it was the faded scar on his left cheek that aged him. It would've appeared some sort of animal had clawed him across the face many years ago.

"I feel very...strange. I can't seem to remember anything about myself." She said holding her head.

"That's because you died, Essie."

She just stared blankly at him. She wasn't sure what to say. "Wha-what did you just say?"

"You're no longer living the life you ones were, Essie. But there is nothing to be afraid of," he reached out and placed his hand on her shoulder. "You're safe now."

Galen watched her fall deep into thought. He looked at her with a concerned look about him. She was lost in a daze, completely ignoring his existence. "Are you okay?"
