One and only(Chapter 1, Cassie)

Start from the beginning

“Andrew, this was a really nice birthday…thank you so much,” I said, rising up on my tiptoes to kiss him on the cheek.

“Cassie…you know that I love you right?” His grey eyes looked straight into my brown ones as he said this. I nodded.

“Let’s go upstairs, I have a present for you,” he choked out in a strangled voice. I unlocked the door of my house and stepped inside. When we stepped into the living room, Andrew grabbed my hand and lead me up to my room. I plopped down onto my mattress.

“You really didn’t have to buy me anything honestly.” I said nervously, biting my lip lightly. As I said this, Andrew had already pulled the box out of his pocket and placed it on my lap.

“I wanted to,” he whispered quickly, he looked so sad. Something was wrong. Very wrong. I lifted the lid and gasped, putting my hand over my mouth. It was the most beautiful bracelet I’d ever seen. It was gold with two heart charms: one was a gold heart that said “I love you,” and the other was a silver broken heart with a black jagged line through the center, on the left side of the crack it said “I’m,” and on the right it said “Sorry.” Tears welled up in my eyes and throat felt clogged, I was being suffocated.

“Sorry for what?” I chocked out, swallowing my sob. He shook his head, looking down.

“It would just hurt you more if I told you and I really don’t want to hurt you, but I have to break up with you.”

“I guess thank you then, but you have to know that you’re breaking my heart here by being so sweet about it…I guess that’s why I love you so much.” I whispered.

“I know I don’t deserve this, but will you promise me that you will wear that bracelet and never take it off?” He asked, looking at me with eyes full of sadness and hopelessness. I shook my head.

“I won’t make promises I’m not sure I can keep.” I said firmly, looking at him, even though he was looking at the ground.

“I guess that’s fair,” he walked over to me, lifting my chin and looking directly into my eyes. He leaned in and placed his lips softly to mine and I actually kissed him back. I guess we can’t stop saying goodbye. “Remember that I love you, that bracelet is a reminder,” he said as he pulled away. I started to cry again and then I just collapsed onto my bed, into a ball, sobbing. I suddenly bolted upright and walked into my oversized closet. I started looking through my clothes, grabbing a pair of shorter than short shorts and a black tank top. Then, after I threw on my clothes and slipped on my sandals, I looked in the mirror and had only one thought “Hottie!” I was too good for Andrew, I was a hottie, a ten, a diamond, a gift. I walked back into my room and picked up my birthday present from Andrew and threw it into the bottom drawer of my night stand. What was the point?

Present:

“I am way too beautiful, smart, funny, popular, rich and talented. I am head cheerleader, I have five scholarships already, and I am the hottest girl in New York City. You should be honored to be my best friend, you must be so proud.” I explained to my one and only best friend Rachel.

“Oh yes, and also the most self-centered and arrogant person. Look Cassie, I know you were hurt when Andrew broke up with you, but that doesn’t give you the right to dismiss everyone that doesn’t meet “Cassie‘s standards.” Rachel said, exasperated.

“Who?” I asked confused, before it clicked. “Oh, him, I actually thank him Rach, if he hadn’t done what he did, I don’t think I ever would’ve realized the truth. He wasn’t worthy of me and he took me for granted. I now see myself as I am, and I see that not many people are worthy of me. I’m a prize for goodness sake and I now see it. I have him to thank for that.” I clarified.

“So no one is worthy and no one deserves you correct,” she questioned, raising her eyebrows.

“No one except you and…well Jake, but I have yet to find anyone like him.” I said, closing my locker, heading to my last class before lunch. I flipped my hair back and arched my back, raising my head up confidently. I was wearing a black leather jacket, a red tank top, black skinny jeans, and black knee-high, four-inch heeled boots. Suddenly, my feet weren’t under me anymore and my butt and the were about to meet, when a hand darted out and pulled me upright. When my feet were under me again, I took a step back and flipped my hair over my shoulder, arching my back. I did a double take when I saw the person that had cancelled the meeting between my butt and the floor. He was a perfect match for my hotness. He was worthy of me for sure. His green eyes were pulling me in and his short cropped hair was reaching for my hands, his handsome, stubbly face was begging to be kissed all over, his toned body was begging for my hands to roam over and his lips…his lips were saying “come here…” no wait, they were saying something else.

“Careful, you okay?” He said in the most husky, sexy voice I’d ever heard. I almost fainted. I would’ve thrown myself at him and kissed him senseless, but there was a problem: this hunk in front of me wasn’t just perfect…he was Jakey.

“Jakey!” I exclaimed, throwing myself at my old best friend.
