Kitsune, is the Japanese word for fox. In popular culture today, the Kitsune is viewed as a werefox or a spirit that after 100 years gains the ability to transform into a human which is usually a beautiful woman. Kitsune are viewed as tricksters and don't carry the sense of right and wrong like humans do but instead enjoy life and fun. Kitsunes can live for centuries and as they get older the more tails they grow which in turn makes them wiser and powerful. Kitsunes are usually depicted as intelligent beings whose wisdom also increases with age.
Kitsune possess magical powers and shapeshifting abilities evident as they can transform into people. Like real foxes, Kitsune don't like other canines such as dogs or wolves. Kitsune are stronger, and faster than humans and they can manipulate dreams, absorb one's life force, induce insanity and possess hosts for a human body, among their other enhanced physical attributes and magical powers.
Until a Kitsune has their nine tails they are essentially just physical foxes. An evil form of a Kitsune is known as a Nogitsune which manipulates and causes disaster in a persons life in order to grow even stronger. When a Kitsune gets its ninth tail its fur becomes a white or even gold color.
Kitsune can be identified in a number of ways. In Japanese culture and legend Kitsunes don't like dogs or wolves and it has been said that dogs can detect a Kitsune spirit and try to attack the spirit just like a dog would do a real - life fox.
Kitsunes are also unable to say the phrase "moshi moshi". In Japan the word moshi means hello so the phrase "moshi moshi" is a language trick that confuses the Kitsune spirit.
Kitsune also can be detected by ones who have supernatural vision.
