"I don't know..." Tyler said, his voice barely louder than the low humming of the air conditioner, that wasn't doing anything to the humidity in the room.

"It's like..." He continues, taking a deep breath.

"It's like-- I'm afraid of what's next."

The psychiatrists room was small, dingy, cold, it seemed to always smell like a lot of hand sanitizing wipes-- or something of the sort. Tyler always noticed this, it was a nauseating, overwhelming smell , and Tyler swore the lights always flickered at least once every appointment. It wasn't exactly the nicest office.

"Why?" The doctor asked, her eyebrows furrowed in interest.

Tyler was looking everywhere but at her, he'd stare at the monotonous patterns of the ceiling tiles or the old rug that covered the floor, even at the photo of magnetic Dr. Martin's old pug that stuck to the front of her desk. Anything but her.

He jerked his eyes to the filing cabinet in the corner.

"I don't know. I just-- it's because I don't know what's next. It could be anything and what if I'm not ready... what if it's not a good thing?"

The doctor adjusted her large glasses and scribbled in a haste.

"I understand, Tyler."
"The future could be scary when you don't know what's coming your way."

Her eyes shoot up to the clock.
"I'm afraid our session is over."

And this would normally be the only time throughout the whole hour and thirty minutes when Tyler would make eye contact with Dr. Martin.

He arose from the leather chair and finally shifted his eyes to the doctor.

"You know the drill, Tyler. Our next appointment is next week, Saturday. And if anything comes up in between, give the office a call."

Tyler nodded, looking back down at his black vans, as he tucked his hands into the pockets of the beat up skeleton hoodie he would never take off. Not even in the scorching temperatures of the summer heat.

It made him feel a little more comfortable.

Dr. Martin's heels thumped fully against the carpet as she headed for the door.

"Thank you." Tyler said, giving her a final look in the eye as he walked through the door she held open for him.

It was six PM, hot and humid.
Tyler began to walk down the sidewalk as the suns rays beamed down, seeming like the sun wouldn't never fall behind the horizon at all that night.
