An Unexpected Visit

I woke with a start.  Hurriedly sitting up, I flared up the sea lanterns and looked around my room. Huh, normal. My maps were still strewn messily about my desk, and my robes were shifting faintly in the wind.

Wait, Wind?

I looked around again and saw that my window next to my nightstand was open. The curtain was moving slowly side to side, obstructing my view of the window, but it was definitely open.

I grumbled a few angry words to myself about getting a new window latch, and rolled out of bed.

My bare feet hit the hard, cold wooden floor. A rush of cold swept over my body, and I felt the hair on the back if my neck raise.

I bounced across the floor, trying to keep my feet off of the cold ground for as long as possible. When I reached the window, I shivered even more. It was really cold outside. I pulled back the curtain, and my heart nearly stopped.

Peering in through the open window were a pair of glowing white eyes. I let out an ear piercing scream and fell backwards. A jolt of pain shot up my arm as I landed on it. What the hell was that?

I propped myself up onto my good arm and tried to look out the window again. The eyes were still there, unblinking and unmoving.

I couldn't make out what was behind the eyes, but I didn't want to. I crawled backwards, towards my bed. Still the eyes stood there, seemingly following me.

I reached the foot of my bed and groped around for a few seconds. I felt my hand wrap around cold, stiff leather, and felt a wave of comfort sweep over me. Dianite had my back.

I used my sword to pull myself up off the ground, all the while watching those cold white eyes. I crept over to them, murmuring a faint warning that got lost in my throat.

After fumbling with the hilt in my left hand for a few seconds, I finally tracked the rune there, activating the sword. Red light pulsated through the blade, before remaining in the blade. With the added light, I could make out the faint silhouette of a man.

With a twinge of annoyance, I realized how stupid I must have looked. "Ha ha. Very funny," I said with a mix of malice, sarcasm, and playfulness.

Suddenly the eyes blinked and started moving slightly up and down. A deep chuckle was followed by the guy jumping into my room.

He leaned against the window sill, and in the light from my lantern, I could make out his familiar tattered blue shirt, ripped jeans, and messy brown hair.

After illuminating the room, I went over my old friend, Herobrine.
