"Georgina!" Molly called from the other room. "What?" a young voice called back. "Come here please." A series of mumbles and groans proceeded as Georgina Holmes dragged herself across the hall. "Yes?" she asked impatiently. "What is on your clothes!" Molly shrieked as she looked at her daughter. Georgina Marie Holmes, age 10, was covered in sludge. Not just your average dirt, this has traces of acid and coal in it. Her curly brown hair was tied up in a ponytail and her eyes were covered with safety glasses. "Clothes, duh." she replied, obviously annoyed. "What are you doing?" Molly asked. "Is that seriously why you called me here?"
"No, I wanted you to help me make dinner, but not while your covered in God knows what!"
"Its just an experiment mom! I'm not gonna blow up or something!"
A knock on the door tore the bickering duo apart. "Ugh, stay here." Molly said as she went to open the door. Being the child she was, Georgina huffed and went back down the hall. Molly opened the door to a startled looking Mrs. Hudson. "What's that man up to now!?" she asked walking into the flat. "Its Georgina this time." Molly replied. "What! Don't tell me Sherlock has his daughter doing his dirty work!" Mrs. Hudson exclaimed as she and Molly sat down for tea. Just them there was a loud explosion noise from upstairs. "I'm okay!" Georgina called knowing her mother would come rushing in. "You get down here this instant young lady!" Molly yelled. "I'll let you two be." Mrs. Hudson said leaving. As she left, Sherlock Holmes stepped in. "Molly?" He called stepping into the kitchen. "Why did I get the death glare from our landlady? Anderson hasn't been here for weeks, what is there to be upset about?" Molly didn't answer, instead she said, "Sherlock, do you see that spot on the ceiling?"
"Yes." He said, giving her a kiss.
"Use your skills, oh great consulting detective, and tell me how it got there." She replied, crossing her arms.
"Judging by the state of things, our daughter has been conducting an experiment."
"And?"
"And, I think she's more like me than you wish." He replied with a smirk. "No." Molly replied sarcastically.
"Just what do you want me to do about it ?"
"Get here under control! I've tried but she's 10, the "I won't listen to you mum" stage."
"Molly Holmes," Sherlock said, bracing his wife's shoulders. "You are a wonderful mother and Georgina loves you very much, so stop torturing yourself."
Molly looked up at her husband, surprised by his kind words. He was not one to break out in bursts of sentiment. "I know." She whispered, falling into his embrace. They were interrupted by another loud bang from upstairs. "I'll take care of it." Sherlock said as Molly sat down with her head in her hands. Sherlock took off his coat and prepared himself for whatever damage awaited him. The room was a disaster. Liquid was everywhere and there was shattered test tubes on the floor. Among the rubble was Sherlock's daughter with a match in hand. "Dad! You've got to see this!" She said, grabbing another cannon shaped object. A stuffed penguin sat on top of the tube, awaiting certain doom. Just as she was about to light the fuse, Sherlock grabbed her hand. "Your mother is furious." He said. "But daaaad!" Georgina pleaded giving Sherlock puppy dog eyes. Looking at his daughter all disheveled and a bomb in hand, Sherlock couldn't help but smile.
"You know your mother is livid." He said, resisting the urge to smile. "Uuughh!" Georgina sighed lowering her hand. "I know, I just, you do this all the time and I figured I should be able to as well." She was just like him, fairly tall, curly brown hair, pricing brown eyes and a personality almost never found in your average 10 year old. She did however, have many outbursts of Molly's kindness. After a long staring contest Sherlock finally said, "Alright, I'll make you a deal." Georgina's eyes lit up. "You have to promise never to do experiments in here without me, and I'll take you and uncle John to see some real explosions hmm?" Georgina pondered the proposition before readily agreeing. She then gave her father a hug and went downstairs to help Molly with dinner. After she left, Sherlock began cleaning up the huge mess she had made. He smiled to himself. This family meant more than anything to him. 17 years ago he would have scoffed at the idea. Now, standing in the midst of his daughters mess, he was the happiest man in earth.
