Gone

It was in the first week of December when the snow began to fall on the earth, leaving a white sheet covering the land as far as the eye could see. The same week was when the one hundred and first Scouts Regiment had been scheduled to 'explore' outside the walls that the human race had been deprived of for over a hundred years.
The walls were built a century ago to prevent the dreaded, man eating , humanoid creatures called Titans from eating the rest of the known human population. The Scouts Regiment was founded to attempt to reclaim the land that the Titans had colonized. However the Regiment was seen as a suicide mission and the soldiers always returned with thirty percent of them dead or injured.
Despite that fact, it did not scare Commander Erwin Smith and his close friend, and work colleague, Captain Levi Ackerman. The tall, masculine Erwin had a chiseled face and blond hair, styled into a side swept undercut. His uniform, was similar to the other members of the squad, leather, knee high boots, white, skin tight, jeans, plain dress shirt and the traditional leather jacket which was always accompanied with the emerald green cape. However Erwin wore a dark spring green neck tie to add in his personal flare. His partner was actually significantly smaller than his seven foot friend. Levi was a very petite five foot two. His hair resembled the undercut that Erwin had but had a parting in the middle causing his locks to frame his sharp cheek bones. With cold, emotionless his eyes could break anyone but not Erwin, with him they would soften and curve into an almost undetectable smile just for him.  The two  had been friends since they met in the legion and had been very close since then. Levi had begun to develop other feelings for the man that he had never felt for anyone else before, it was love, but he kept his feeling hidden as to not ruin the relationship. He had not planned to tell Erwin of his true emotions, until his plans changed on one cold week in December.

An hour into the expedition and there were no sign of any Titans anywhere, just the sight of snow covered land with faint, black outlines of trees in the distance. That was wrong, it was never this quiet on an expedition ,ever, something did not feel right in Levi's bones. His gut was telling him to turn back but he could not disobey orders from his commander, his  Erwin, or leave him to die. "It's extremely quiet,Commander, it's not natural. I personally think we should turn back." Suggested another soldier in the brigade, a boy named Eren, who Erwin usually likes. "We will be fine, Cadet  Jaeger. If you want to turn back, you can do so, alone," Erwin countered, emphasizing the words you and alone to get his point across that if he was to desert the Squad would mean he would either be eaten on his way back, or if he somehow, miraculously survived that voyage he would be charged with treason and executed on the spot. Eren went quiet and did not make a sound again.

The quadrant rode further and further from home when, all of a sudden, as if out of thin air...

They came...

Green and black smoke signals shot up into the sky, informing the rest of the Regiment in the formation that the Titans had began to attack. It did not take long until  15 meter giant ran towards the three men. The beast took a swipe for Eren, successfully catching him and eating him whole before Levi and Erwin's eyes. In a state of rage, Erwin used his three-dimensional maneuvering gear to quickly climb onto the back of the Titan's back, preparing his blades to give the death blow to the nape of the neck. However before the cold, metal blade could meet flesh a huge hand clutched Erwin in it's grasp, crushing his bones as the Titan's fingers contracted around his body. Levi watched in horror as his soul mate was dying. Ready to eat Erwin, the Titan placed one of his arms in between it's grinning lips and slowly began to bite down making a shrill scream of pain erupt from Erwin's throat. The terrifying sound broke Levi out of his trance and he clambered up to the nape of the neck and hacked at it with sadness and fury.

The being collapsed onto the snow with a deafening bang and released Erwin's body right after its jaw had already severed his right limb. The once pure, white snow, had began to turn into a sickening shade of red, and that red pool only began to grow bigger and bigger around Erwin with every second that passed. Scrambling to his side, Levi began to attempt to stop the blood from exiting his friend's body at a faster rate, even though he knew his attempts would be fruitless in the end he had to keep trying.  "Stop," murmured Erwin coughing up some blood, staining lips scarlet. "No, you need to live, you can't die. You can't fucking leave me alone," his frantic partner replied, shacking as ragged sobs left his body. "My life is at it's end, my friend, let me go to the gates of heaven and be free, forever," his breath was becoming uneven and he knew his time was up but Levi said the tree words he had been waiting to hear for years,"I love you." As those words escaped his lips, he leant down kissed Erwin's cold, bloody lips. Once they broke apart the Commander's eyes were dull and had no light in them anymore, his breathing ended and so did his suffering...

It was too late...

He was Gone...
