Quietly a young girl looked around the house, "Mama?"
But nobody was in the house with the young girl except for her echo of calling her mother.
Once she realised her mom wasn't here she went outside to the boys who ran the streets, who dropped what they were doing and states intently at her.
Everyone in this Indiana town knew her momma was the finest looking woman around and who never seemed to have time for her little girl.
The silence broke and they grinned down at her, "Don't worry little Mary. We got you." They began to walk and she ran to keep up with them, "On these Indiana nights we'll get you growing up right."
When she turned 18, she moved away from Indiana and down to Nevada, escaping her lonely past.
But she didn't resemble a little girl no longer.
Mary Jane resembled a woman, tall and slender with curves that resembled her mama.
As she walked downtown all eyes were on her, she was more than any of the boys had ever seen.
Whispers quickly circulated as she walked by, "Who is she?!" "Man I dig it!"
She had only been in this small Nevada town for about two months where she quickly made friends with a bartender named Si.
She sat at the bar and idled as Si served patrons.
The door burst open and a blonde haired man walked in and slide beside her as Si opened a beer for him, "Hey Zombie!"
He took it from her and drank a little before speaking, "Alcoholic, how you been?"
Mary's face flushed and she looked at him intrigued, Who was this man?
Si grinned, "Good serving young Mary. She's new to town."
He took another swig and a smirk formed, "Oh?"
Mary blushed and turned in her seat to face him fully, "That's me. Hi I'm Mary Jane." she said with a smile.
He grinned at her before setting his bottle down, "Well Miss Mary you are something extraordinary to be in this plain town."
She blushed and giggled at his compliment, as her mind raged a war on her naiveness.
He grinned and focused fully on her instead of his beer, "I'm Tom. I work at the morgue."
Her mind finally won over her naive heart as she stood with a smile.
"I dig you Tom but I'm afraid I got to keep my options open and move on." She walked out of the bar leaving Tom in a daze and Si in a laughing fit.
He tried his damn hardest to avoid her, but the longer he stayed away he began to realize she was the one living who made him want to live than be laying on the cool tables where he worked.
he walked up to the bar and took a deep breath, "Just one more time and then I'll leave her alone. Swear to God."
He went inside and smiled as he saw Mary at the spot where they had first met.
He walked to her and sat beside her, "Well Miss Mary, it's been awhile."
She smiled as she set down the water she was sipping, "Indeed it has been Tom. I would be a liar if I said I did not miss you." She grinned as she watched a flush creep up his cheeks and neck.
He grinned back and leaned against the bar, "You missed me eh? Well I hope seeing me tonight does it I've been to busy with work and I do not know when I'll be back."
