"Can't catch me!" Two young pups ran through the forest. One, a black and white shepherd with a small mohawk. The other, a black half-wolf with brown spots, one making the shape of a heart. The two laughed and giggled as they continued running around. Occasionally, the wolf would pin the shepherd, only for the shepherd to roll them over and run off once more. They were the best of friends.
"Gotcha!" the wolf exclaimed. He had all four of his friends paws pinned down. "What'cha gonna do about it, Dox?" He smirked, knowing there was nothing he could do.
Dox squirmed under his grip, growing frustrated. He whined in defeat. "Fine! You win, Ghost." Content with his win, Ghost released him, watching as he got up. Dox shook his fur out, his ears perking. "Did you feel that?"
"Feel what?" Suddenly, the ground began shaking beneath them. Above, the trees swayed back and forth. Pinecones, leaves and branches fell around them. The two pups both began running for their lives, trying to get to Ghost's truck before it was too late. A loud crack could be heard as a tree began falling in front of them. "Dox!" Ghost called out, rushing forward. He bit down on his collar and pulled him out of the way in the knick of time.
No time to react, they continued running until they discovered a cave. They ran inside, Dox tripping over his paws and slamming into Ghost. The two rolled around until they came to a stop. "Sorry, Ghost," Dox said, his ears folded.
"Are you okay?" Ghost asked. He noted the scrapes on his fur, as well as his own. They'd be fine, he determined. Another loud crack echoed throughout the cave, this time thunder. The earthquake had long passed, but a storm had rolled in.
Dox shook nervously. "I-I think so..." he said. Ghost sat next to him as they listened to the rainfall. The silence between them was normal, they liked it. They let nature do the talking. Unfortunately, it was a storm, which Dox hated. As thunder boomed around them, he inched farther and farther away from the entrance and Ghost.
"Dox?" Ghost asked. "Thunder can't hurt you. Lightning can't hurt us from in here." Dox continued shaking. "C'mere, I'll show you." Hesitantly, Dox came forward until he was next to Ghost. Lightning filled the sky, followed by the crash of thunder. Dox whined loudly, covering his eyes with his paws. "Shhh," Ghost said as he comforted his friend. "Everything will be okay."
Ghost tried to keep him calm, but the raging storm showed no signs of stopping anytime soon. "M-maybe we shouldn't b-be s-so close..."
"Don't worry," Ghost smiled as he looked back outside. Lightning streaked the sky. "Beautiful, ain't it?"
The two pups watched in awe as nature took it's course. "That was cool!" Dox said, his tail starting to wag a bit. Ghost smiled, knowing he'd helped his friend.
"See? Nature's a beautiful place ain't it? But she's also a very powerful and deadly force." As he said that, thunder rolled.
Dox shivered a bit. "Y-yeah..." His ears perked and he turned, looking deep into the cave. "Did you hear that?"
"Better not be anything," Ghost said with a slight growl.
"It almost sounded like water." Dox got up and began walking deeper into the cave. "Come on! Let's check it out!"
Ghost followed behind, keeping an eye and ear out for anything out of the ordinary. "I don't smell anything so it should be safe.
Dox began running. "It's getting louder! Hurry-" As he turned a corner, a loud splash could be heard.
Ghost ran up and saw a large pool of water. He laughed as Dox's muzzle broke the surface, sputtering and coughing in shock. "That's why you never cut corners," he smirked.
