It was raining on that faithful night. A carriage was rolling down the path on its way back to the castle. The driver squinted his eyes to see through the darkness and the pouring rain. He and a few others were task to find and retrieve a treasure for the king. A large egg that can only be found in the twisted woods.

"Why is the king so obsessed in having some bloody egg?" One of the collectors complained.

"I don't know but we mustn't question his authority. If he wants some bloody egg, he wants it for some reason," the other collector answered.

The other shrugged and looked out the window. It started raining harder, making the path muddy and slippery. The driver was having a rough enough time trying to steer the horses through the rain. Suddenly, one of the back wheels bumped in a hole and the carriage started wobbling.

"Hold on!" The driver yelled to the riders inside.

They started to hold on to the container which held the egg. They started to rock back and forth as the carriage continues to roll down the path. Then without warning, a bolt of lighting flashed across the sky, scaring the horses. They reared up and knocked the carriage and the driver off the path. The passengers were knocked from side to side, trying to hold on to the case that contained the egg. Unfortunately, they couldn't hold on and the case crashed through the window.

"You idiot!" The first passenger yelled.

"Hey its not my fault!" The other passenger yelled back.

The case continued to roll down the hill until it hit a rock and the egg flew out of it and landed in a bush.

*Ruby's POV*

I looked out my window to see the rain coming down harder than before.

"I like the rain. It's calming. Don't you think Wicker?" I asked my pet owl. My black and white stripped owl looked out the window and looked back at me sideways. I took that as a yes.

I smiled at him and went back to my spell book. I was looking at a levitation spell to practice for the fair coming up. I was so excited to show the village how much I've grown as a young wizard. The villagers are very supportive of my magic, which is hard to come by in this time period. As I read the spell, I heard a thud from outside.

"What was that?" I asked out loud. Wicker flew over to the window to look for the source of the sound. He turned back to me and pointed his wing in the direction of my yard. I went over to the window and saw he was pointing to a patch of bushes. I walked over to the back door with my wand ready. I opened the door and pointed my wand towards the bushes.

"Hello? Is someone there?" I called out. There was no response. I looked around to see no one was around the house. I quickly waved my wand over my head to cast a umbrella spell to create a cover over my head to protect me from the rain. I walked out towards the bushes to check it out. I moved some of the bushes out of the way and to my surprise, found an egg laying there.

"What the heck? What's this doing here?" I asked myself. The egg was huge. It was a pale yellow and grey color with black spots on it. I picked it up and went back into my house. I canceled the umbrella spell and sat my wand down. I set the egg down on my desk to study it. It was as big as a small watermelon and it weighs just the same.

"Wicker, do you know what this egg could be?" I asked my owl. He flew over to me and landed on my shoulder. He took a good look at the egg and looked back at me, shaking his head. I sighed.

"Alright. Well it's getting late and we have to be up early to help the Baker in the morning. Can you keep the egg warm for the night?" I asked him.

He rolled his eyes at me but nodded. I smiled as I got a blanket to cover Wicker and the egg for the night. I kissed his head and went upstairs to my room. I turned on the lantern to look around. My room had a big bed fit for two, a desk, a dresser, a closet and two fully stocked bookcases. I walked over to my dresser to find my nightgown. I changed and walked over to my bed to lay down. I reached over to the desk and placed my wand in the drawer. I turned off the lantern and snuggled into my bed and fell into a peaceful sleep.
