I woke up to a cool breeze that swept through my open bedroom window sending goosebumps down my spine. I pushed my blanket off of my body, firmly planting my bare feet on the cold hardwood floor walking towards my bathroom. After a long shower to wake me up, I slipped on my favourite sweater and a simple pair of black skinny jeans along with my best pair of converse, making my way downstairs and out of my house to the coffeehouse that sat beside an old cracked concrete path covered in dirt and muck.
I gently pushed on the glass door, framed by brown wood, gently painted with small cracks that ran up and down. It was funny really, anyone else would think this town was horrible, what with the cracks that decorated the entire town wherever it could, the potholes scattered around in every road and street, the small houses that looked as though they were about to crumble in on themselves but for me? It was flawless, the cracks and potholes, the broken street signs and old trees that were breaking at every branch showed the age of the town, it showed history, that people were once here and loved it.
There were of course the things that I hated about the town but I guess you kind of expect that when you've lived in a town for 18 years of your life - your whole life.
As I sat in the corner booth of the coffeehouse, running my fingers over the window frames that sat beside me, it was beautiful, the view of the town from every angle.
After a coffee and some breakfast, I headed back home to see my foster parents and sister getting into the family car. "Oh sweetie! We were just going to go for a drive to the lake, would you like to come?" Lily, my foster mum asked, "No I have to study, it's alright, you guys go have fun." I smiled giving all of them a gentle kiss on the cheek before heading inside to study.
After a few hours of studying, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach, I knew something was wrong, it was a feeling that I'd felt only once before, a feeling I hoped I would never have to feel again. I ran downstairs and turned the tv on to see the news, pieces of my heart falling to my stomach as the reporter announced the breaking news, a car accident, two adults dead on impact, one adult and one child injured and just admitted into the hospital.
My heart was beating faster and faster with every second, I grabbed my skateboard and made my way to the hospital as fast as I could to find my world broken and shattered once again.
